SUWANEE -- The students who outperformed competitors in the Gwinnett County Public Schools spelling bee are headed to the District 3 event Saturday to try and win at the next level.
The top 12 spellers from GCPS and a winner from Buford City will take their places at 10 a.m. at North Gwinnett High School to defend against others in the region. Other school systems in District 3 include Banks, Barrow, Buford City, Gainesville City, Gwinnett, Habersham, Hall, Jackson, Jefferson City, Madison, Rabun, Stephens, a private school and three home schools.
From the event, a district winner and runner up will emerge for the next level of competition.
"It's quite an honor to get to the district, but it's really a great honor to go on to the state bee," said event director Donnis Terry.
Buford City student Brandon Sudge plans to compete, and Aubrey Daniels is his alternate.
