DULUTH -- Gwinnett police have charged a Lawrenceville man with opening fire on a carload of people following a fracas at a Duluth apartment complex.
Police believe Matthew Jones, 23, fired multiple rounds from a handgun at a passenger car with four people inside Saturday night. None were hit.
The driver was attempting to exit the Meridian Pointe apartments parking lot at 1470 Boggs Road at the time, according to an arrest warrant.
Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter said the incident began with an altercation involving some of the people in the car and party-goers at an apartment.
"As they were leaving the area, this guy opened fire on them," Ritter said. "No one was injured in the car. I believe one person inside the party was injured during the initial fight."
Jones remained at the scene and was taken into police custody. He's charged with eight felonies -- four counts each of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and terroristic threats and acts. He remains at the Gwinnett County Jail without bond.
