LILBURN -- A Wednesday evening fire caused heavy damage to a Lilburn home and displaced a family of four, officials said.
Gwinnett County firefighters responded to the home on the 900 block of Hampton Trail just about 6 p.m., finding a "pretty significant" blaze burning at the back of the house upon arrival, spokesman Capt. Tommy Rutledge said.
The fire, reported by a neighbor, burned along the back deck and wall and had extended to the attic by the time crews arrived.
"Firefighters were able to get a good stop on the fire," Rutledge said, "but not before it caused heavy damage to the back of the house."
The residents -- a family of four with two teenage children -- were not home at the time of the blaze, Rutledge said. They will be displaced and the Red Cross was notified for assistance.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire was undetermined and under investigation Wednesday evening.
