DULUTH -- City staff in Duluth brought home the highest award in governmental budgeting recently.
Duluth's annual budget for the current fiscal year won the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.
To win, the budget must act as a policy document, operations guide, financial plan and communications device, according to a press release. The documents must be rated "proficient" in 14 categories.
The Duluth finance department set a goal of winning the award "to foster a sustainable economic environment as well as maintain our vision as a world-class government," the release said.
City Finance Manager Ken Sakmar was presented with a certificate of recognition for his efforts. Sakmar, his staff and the public information office are credited with creating the award-winning budget document.
"City staff is committed to establishing policies and procedures to ensure all citizens of the city of Duluth are confident in the management of their tax dollars," the press release said.

It didn't win this when Lassiter was in charge. Wonder why?
