GOOD NEWS: State honors Buford High School

BUFORD -- The State Department of Education announced recently that Buford High School has earned the awards of AP Merit School, AP STEM School and AP STEM Achievement School.

Schools with students testing in at least two AP math and science courses are named AP STEM facilities. Buford High School met this mark as well as having at least 20 percent of its student population taking AP and at least 50 percent of them scoring a 3 or higher on the exam.

Buford High School was also designated as an AP STEM Achievement School, meaning students tested in at least two AP Math courses, two AP Science courses and at least 40 percent of the exam scores on AP Math and Science were 3 or higher.

AP classes and exams are administered by the college board, which also administers the SAT college-entrance exam. Students who receive a 3, 4 or 5 on AP exams may receive college credit. The 2012 AP Honor Schools are named based on results from 2010-11 AP classes and exams.
