Betty Campbell, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend died on February 15, 2012 due to complications of colon cancer after having seven wonderful years of being cancer free. Betty was born on March 25, 1937, in Groton, Vermont. In 1970 she moved to Atlanta. She retired from Bellsouth in 2001 and married Ed Phelan. Betty enjoyed line dancing and bowling with H20, participating in the Gwinnett Senior Olympics, attending Sunday School and working in the Nursery at First Baptist Church as well as gardening, traveling, cycling, playing tennis and climbing Stone Mountain. Survivors include her husband Ed Phelan; daughters and sons in law, Kim and Carlos Merizalde, Kelly and Carlos Ruiz both of Lawrenceville and Kristi and Bryan Saunders of McDonough; step-children, Clay Phelan of Virginia and Jennifer Phelan of Lilburn; grandchildren, John, Nicole and Natalie Merizalde, Rachel, Emma and John Ruiz, Dawson and Grace Saunders and Christian Phelan; and sisters in law: Georgia Bryant and Virginia Harrington. A memorial and celebration of life will be held Saturday, February 18th, at Tom Wages Funeral Home in Lawrenceville. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3pm, followed by a memorial service and reception.
