Schutte stepping down as Georgia Perimeter softball coach

Duluth resident Ed Schutte, who helped Georgia Perimeter College transition from slowpitch to fastpitch softball, announced this week that the 2012 season will be his last at GPC.

Schutte, whose daughters played high school softball for Duluth, joined the GPC staff as an assistant to help with the switch to fastpitch and later became head coach in 2002. He has a 308-155 record as the Jaguars' head coach with two national tournament appearances. He won Georgia Collegiate Athletic Assocation coach of the year honors four times.

Schutte, who hopes to coach national teams in the future, also plans to work as a coach at McCann's Windward Baseball and Softball Academy in Alpharetta.
