SNELLVILLE -- Police believe an employee pocketed cash meant to pay for day care.
Shadia Ross, of Stone Mountain, was arrested earlier this month on a charge of theft by taking while she worked at Legacy Academy, located along U.S. Highway 78 at Summit Chase Drive.
Cpl. Trey Downs of the Snellville Police Department said an investigation found she bilked $10,861 between January and Decemeber 2011.
"The owners noticed revenue going down, started an investigation and found she had been stealing for about a year," Downs said.
Before she was fired a couple of months ago, Ross was the co-director in charge of the financial side of the day care, according to police.
She is accused of marking children as part-time in the company's computer, charging parents for full-time care and pocketing half of the money, Downs said.
