PREP ROUNDUP: Hebron boys hoops clinches first-ever state bid

MONROE -- Hebron Christian's boys basketball team qualified for the state tournament for the first time in school history Wednesday night with a 52-43 victory over Towns County in the Region 8-A Tournament at George Walton Academy.

Griffin Gambill led the Lions (12-14) with 17 points and Dylan Schulte contributed 10 points.

"Our kids have been working hard," Hebron boys coach Will Cantrell said. "We've been talking all year about doing something that's never been done before. You don't get those chances too often. They had their chance tonight and took advantage of it."


Lakeview Academy 44, Hebron 41

MONROE -- Hebron's girls basketball team got 13 points and six rebounds from freshman Brooke Davis, but came up just short in the Region 8-A Tournament, falling 44-41 to Lakeview Academy.

Taryn Higgins added 11 points and four rebounds for the Lions, who finished the season 13-13.


Plummer matches 9-hole course record in Mill Creek win

HOSCHTON -- Katie Plummer tied the course nine-hole record at Hamilton Mill with a 4-under-par 32 as Mill Creek's girls beat Peachtree Ridge 74-93 in golf.

In the round, Plummer ran off four straight birdies. Peachtree Ridge's Jenny Li and the Hawks' Garnett Glaser each shot 42.


South Gwinnett 2, Loganville 1

SNELLVILLE -- Jorge Cuencea scored a pair of goals as South Gwinnett defeated Loganville 2-1 on Tuesday. Oscar Bautista added an assist.


Mill Creek 3, Brookwood 2

HOSCHTON -- With singles wins from Madison Hahn and Abbi Jordan, Mill Creek hung on for a 3-2 win over Brookwood at home on Wednesday.

The No. 1 doubles team of Cailey Stevens and Allison Weaver picked up the final point for the Hawks (3-1).

Mountain View 4, Dacula 1

DACULA -- Victoria Mock and Emma Joseph won at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively, and Mountain View defeated Dacula 4-1 on Wednesday.

The Bears (1-0) also got wins from the No. 1 doubles team of Meg Mullins and Allison Pham and No. 2 doubles of Bri Norris and Emily Lopez.

Buford 4, Lumpkin County 1

BUFORD -- All three singles players picked up wins as Buford beat Lumpkin County 4-1 at home Wednesday.

Kelley Cohron, Annalea Stevens and Kristin Bradshaw all won singles matches and the doubles team of Gabby Puckett and Abbey Mitchell picked up the final point for the Wolves (4-0).

Wesleyan 5, Collins Hill 0

NORCROSS -- Julie Rodriquez and Caitin English combined with the doubles team of Dee Dee Seaman and Katie Van Laeke to lead Wesleyan to a 5-0 win over Collins Hill.

Getting singles wins for Wesleyan (1-0) were Megan Kelly, Savannah Strickland and Sarah Settlage.


Grayson 3, Archer 2

LOGANVILLE -- Grayson got wins from Tommy Lee at No. 3 singles and the doubles teams of Matt Bolt and Parker Evans and Austin Collier and Caleb White to edge Archer 3-2 and stay unbeaten.

Winning for Archer were Aaron Harris and Alex Butenko.

Brookwood 5, Mill Creek 0

HOSCHTON -- Brookwood improved to 3-0 with a sweep of Mill Creek on Wednesday.Singles winners for the Broncos were Mark Guentert, Will George and Drew Wendel. Matt Jones and David Brown and Jody Chan and Amarin Montroy picked up the doubles wins for Brookwood.

Collins Hill 5, Wesleyan 0

NORCROSS -- With singles wins from Chris Clark, Tyler Kallgren and Ian Melnik, Collins Hill cruised to a 5-0 win over Wesleyan on Wednesday.

The Eagles (3-0) got doubles wins from the teams of Jake Inderrieden and Marcus Maloney and Alec Rahmanian and Peyton Rushing.

Buford 5, Lumpkin County 0

BUFORD -- With singles wins from Colby West, Rob Hunter and Alex Turner, Buford made easy work of Lumpkin County, winning 5-0.

Winning doubles matches for the Wolves (4-0) were Jabin Stepp and Skyler Wilson and Nicholas Becker and Josh Thompson.
