Region 8-AAAAA

Key newcomers/other contributors: GK Rachel Pfeiffer, Jr.; MF Mazkenzie Brown, Jr.; MF Shelby Pallone, Soph.; Olivia Sabina, Sr.; Catarena Arrant, Sr.; Angie Cruz, Sr.

Outlook: After a breakout season in 2011, the Tigers are hopeful of more as the still young program continues its maturation. Archer should again be stout defensively with Coumes and Terilli leading the way, while Wilson (eight goals, four assists last season) adds punch to what should be an improved offense.

2011 record: 3-11-1

Outlook: The Broncos used a lot of young players last season and their development will be important this season. A deep and versatile roster gives hopes of improving on last year's first-round playoff loss. The offense must replace the loss of forward Washida Blackman, now at Mercer.

Central Gwinnett Black Knights

Coach: Mike Yocca

2011 record: 5-9

Outlook: A large group of returning players, particularly on defense, gives the Black Knights high hopes for this season. Arevalo, Domenech and Ondish make up a solid group on defense, while a group of newcomers should bolster the offense.

Dacula Falcons

Coach: Jason Guzzardo

2011 record: 12-6, first round of playoffs

Returning starters: F Ruva Chimedza, Sr.; DEF Grace Boatright, Sr.; DEF Amanda Kent, Sr.; MF Kristin Kelly, Jr.; F Lauren Vick, Soph.; F Sydney Thomas, Soph.; MF Katie McAdams, Soph.; MF Valeria Bermeo, Soph.; MF Madison Glunn, Soph.; DEF Missy Johnson, Soph.

Outlook: A state playoff team last season, Dacula has the talent for a return trip with 10 returning starters. That group includes seniors Chimedza, Boatright and Kent, along with junior captain Kelly and playmaker Bermeo, one of the area's top sophomores, who had 10 goals and 14 assists last season. McAdams (12 goals, five assists in 11 games) and Vick (13 goals, three assists) also had solid offensive seasons in 2011.

Grayson Rams

Coach: Terry Klinect

2011 record: 12-6-1, first round of state playoffs

Returning starters: DEF Jessica Allen, Jr.; DEF Savannah Selby, Soph.; DEF Chelsea Van Baush, Sr.; MF Ciera Crane, Jr.; F Ashley Griffin, Sr.; F Alexa Webb, Jr.

Key newcomers/other contributors: GK Cadye Picklesimer, Soph.; MF Brittany Bennett, Fr.

Outlook: The Rams have the experience of state playoff appearances the past two seasons and return a solid core from last season's team. Allen, Van Baush and Selby lead what should be a stout defense in front of new goalie Picklesimer.

Parkview Panthers

Coach: Judson Hamby

2011 record: 10-9, first round of playoffs

Returning starters: MF Stephanie Gutierrez, Sr.; DEF Alex Truitt, Sr.; DEF Lauren Sowell, Sr.; DEF Allison Litchfield, Jr.; MF Iris Gonzalez, Sr.; MF/DEF Alex Bowen, Jr; DEF Katherine Jory, Jr.; MF/DEF Madison Ober, Soph.; DEF Alex Osborn, Jr.

Outlook: The Panthers made the state playoffs last season once again, and aim for a return with nearly everyone returning off the 2011 team. They also added some quality newcomers and freshmen that will help greatly. Litchfield was a steadying force last season and Gutierrez had six goals and seven assists as a junior.

Shiloh Generals

Coach: Megan Hill

2011 record: 0-17

Key players: DEF Anjene Alexander, Sr.; MF Lorena Alvarez, Sr.; DEF Dymond Brooks, Sr.; GK DeAundra Green, Soph.; MF Kelsey Griswold, Sr.; MF Kaylee Griswold, Soph.; MF Eniola Ibisanmi, Soph.; DEF Jasmine Lopez, Sr.; DEF Lindsay McCullough, Sr.; MF Secondra Meadows, Sr.; F Dyana Medina, Sr.; MF Esmeralda Mujkanovic, Sr.; DEF Cristina Ortiz, Soph.; DEF Shannon Smalling, Sr.; DEF Caroline Sosebee, Sr.; MF Anita Trupina, Sr.; F Wendy Perez, Sr.

Outlook: The Generals hope to turn things around with a new coach this season in Hill, a North Gwinnett grad who played at Southern Miss. She has the benefit of strong leadership bolstered by 13 seniors.

South Gwinnett Comets

Coach: Brian Emsley

2011 record: 4-12-1

Returning starters: GK Mallory Sayre, Sr.; DEF Brianna Jones, Sr.; DEF Jocelyn Jones, Jr.; MF Caitlin Brainard, Jr.; MF Kelly Geary, Soph.; DEF Sade Martin, Soph.; MF/F Deja Stanek, Soph.; MF/F Bre Tucker, Soph.

Key newcomers/other contributors: F Gaby Silva, Soph.; DEF Miranda Rolon, Fr.

Outlook: North Georgia signee Sayre (157 saves last season) can be a dominant force at goalkeeper, part of the reason the Comets (4-4 in the region last season) have a good shot at a playoff berth. Three defenders and three midfielders also return for what is a young team overall, including Geary, who had 10 goals a year ago.

Region 7-AAAAA

Collins Hill Eagles

Coach: Jeff Tinklepaugh

2011 record: 13-7, state quarterfinals

Returning starters: F Mariah Dickey, Sr.; MF/DF Margaret Bruemmer, Sr.; MF/F Taylor Donohue, Jr.; DEF Laura Gillespie, Sr.; DEF Amanda Bruemmer, Jr.; DEF Kaitlyn DelSavio, Jr.; MF Paige Hoover, Soph.

Key newcomers/other contributors: F Loren Mitchell, Sr.; DEF Amanda Norris, Sr.; MF Jessica Dacey, Jr.; DEF Lindsey Lawrence, Sr.

Outlook: Collins Hill lost a few key players to graduation, but plenty of talent returns from a team that lost 1-0 to eventual state champion Harrison in the state quarterfinals. Dickey, a Georgia signee, scored huge goals last season (14 goals, five assists total) and fellow UGA recruit Donohue is a dynamic midfielder. Though untested at goalkeeper, the Eagles are strong in the defense with Margaret Bruemmer and Gillespie leading the way.

Duluth Wildcats

Coach: Vince Hayes

2011 record: 9-5-1

Returning starters: MF Tamaya Tompoe, Sr.; DEF Shannon Coulombe, Sr.; DEF Becca Miller, Soph.; DEF Sarah Miller, Soph.; F Rebekka Cancino, Sr.

Key newcomers/other contributors: F Julianna Luther, Sr.; DEF Lexie Luther, Jr.

Outlook: A successful 2011 season brings high hopes for this spring in Duluth. The Wildcats should boast a stout defense and an exciting playmaker in Tompoe (18 goals, 25 assists in three seasons). The Luther sisters, transfers from Peachtree Ridge, also will provide a boost.

Meadowcreek Mustangs

Coach: Thomas Warren

2011 record: 4-11-2

Returning starters: Yohanny Alvarez, Jr.; Rebekka Arocho, Sr.; Gabriela Contreras, Jr.; Rachel Hill, Jr.; Mariam Martinez, Jr.; Erika Roblero, Jr.; Linda Rodriguez, Sr.; Melissa Tamayo, Jr.; Antonella Zarralanga, Jr.

Outlook: The Mustangs have become more competitive in recent seasons, a trend they hope continues after a solid 2011 season. Three-year starter Rodriguez anchors the defense and Hill, also a three-year starter who had 10 goals last year, is the team's top offensive playmaker. Big things also are expected out of Marquina, a freshman in the midfield.

Mill Creek Hawks

Coach: Brent Leitsch

2011 record: 17-4, state semifinals

Returning starters: F Lauren Tanner, Jr.; MF Cortney Emmert, Sr.; MF Nicole Ruggieri, Sr.; DEF Hannah Wilson, Sr.; DEF Megan Gil, Jr.; DEF Courtney Dobeck, Sr.

Outlook: The Hawks will build on a breakout 2011 season that concluded with a best-ever run to the state semifinals. Tanner (six goals, 10 assists) is one of the fastest strikers in the area, while the midfield and defense should be stout in front of first-year starter Allred at goalkeeper.

Mountain View Bears

Coach: Tracy Valentino

2011 record: 3-13-1

Returning starters: MF Bree Britton, Soph.; MF Emily Stout, Soph.; GK Katie Darby, Soph.; DEF Shelby Gray, Soph.; DEF Nadia Aghaie, Jr.; DEF Kaley Cline, Sr.

Key newcomers/other contributors: MF Ansley Roley, Fr.; F Aneysa Williams, Fr.; DEF Hailey Jones, Fr.

Outlook: After making the state playoffs in Class AAA in 2010, the Bears' first season in AAAAA soccer was up-and-down with a young team. Though still young, they hope to be more competitive with senior players in the lineup for the first time.

Norcross Blue Devils

Coach: Judas Kinchen

2011 record: 6-11

Returning starters: MF Mallory McEwen, Sr.; MF Holly Tullier, Sr.; F Maddie Clark, Sr.; MF Jordan Lewter, Soph.; MF Nicki Willis, Soph.; DEF Jordan Shapiro, Soph.; DEF Kathryn Saunders, Soph.; DEF Maddie Stephen, Soph.; MF Jenna McEachern, Soph.

Key newcomers/other contributors: F/DEF Estefany Suastegui, Sr.; GK Sydney Hanna, Jr.; GK Kennedy White, Soph.

Outlook: The Blue Devils have the potential for a big season, with nearly everyone returning from a team that finished one spot out of the playoffs a year ago. Though the team has grown up some, it still will rely heavily on sophomores this season.

North Gwinnett Bulldogs

Coach: Erik Crawford

2011 record: 19-4, state runner-up

Returning starters: F/MF Lauren Harriman, Sr.; DEF Mackenzie Loula, Sr.; DEF Jessica Eberhardt, Sr.; F Brooke Bortles, Sr.; F Taylor Burns, Jr.; F/MF Caroline Gualdoni, Soph.

Key newcomers/other contributors: DEF Paige Scarbrough, Sr.; MF Abby Grest, Sr.; DEF Andrea Herrera, Soph.; F Katie Strand, Fr.; MF Stephanie Lee, Fr.; DEF Devin Gaskill, Fr.; MF Amanda Delgado, Fr.; F Reina Davis, Fr.

Outlook: North, best among Gwinnett's girls teams the past two seasons with a state championship in 2010 and a state runner-up finish last year, has a new coach in Crawford, who replaces Mark Karen. He takes over a team with six returning starters and loads of playoff experience. Harriman (13 goals, seven assists) is a playmaker at striker or midfielder, and Burns (23 goals, 15 assists), Bortles and Gualdoni (19 goals, 15 assists) also spark the offense. Loula and Eberhardt have tons of experience in the defense.

Peachtree Ridge Lions

Coach: Bill Holleman

2011 record: 9-9, first round of playoffs

Returning starters: F Emily Edmond, Sr.; MF/DEF Graham Green, Sr.; MF Katie Fitton, Sr.; F Phoebe Palmer, Soph.; DEF Esther Cano, Jr.; MF/DEF Macey Raines, Jr.; DEF Shelby Jennings, Sr.; DEF Olivia Hall, Jr.; MF/F Alanna Dineen, Sr.; DEF Katey Lippitt, Sr.

Key newcomers/other contributors: GK Cosette Morche, Fr.; F Jordyn Missel, Fr.; MF/DEF Amanda Ferry, Fr.

Outlook: Peachtree Ridge is aiming for a playoff return with a solid mix of experience and youth. Lippitt (Georgia Southern) and Jennings (Valdosta State) lead a strong defense, while Dineen (Alabama-Birmingham) is a key player on offense.

Region 8-AAA

Region 6-AA

Buford Wolves

Coach: Drew Eager

2011 record: 11-5-1

Returning starters: F Lindsey White, Sr.; F Ceely Coker, Soph.; MF McKenna Harwood, Soph.; MF Caitlyn Dawkins, Soph.; MF Tara Dambach, Soph.; DEF Jessi Vaverka, Soph.; DEF Kennedy Webster, Jr.; DEF Caitlin Hollis, Sr.

Key newcomers/other contributors: DEF Alexa Smith, Sr.; DEF Olivia Hoey, Sr.; DEF Liz Watkins, Sr.; DEF Brooke Horist, Fr.

Outlook: Most of the Wolves return from last season, bring high hopes for reaching the state playoffs for the first time in four years. A strong senior class has provided great leadership to mix with young talent like Coker (19 goals, five assists last season) and Vaverka, a defensive leader who had a team-high nine assists in 2011.

GAC Spartans

Coach: Troy Bendickson

2011 record: 16-3-2, state runner-up

Returning starters: DEF Kailey Bryan, Sr.; DEF Kelsey Fervier, Sr.; F Rachel Garcia, Jr.; MF Taylor Wagnon, Jr.; MF Kayla Puzas, Jr.; GK Elizabeth White, Jr.

Outlook: After falling one win short of a state championship, the Spartans are hungry this spring. A talented group returns, including a junior class with three high-level commitments -- Garcia (Georgia), Wagnon (Auburn) and Puzas (Mississippi State). Garcia had 27 goals and six assists last season and Wagnon had a team-high 14 assists. Bryan, Fervier and Williams lead what could be the best defense in school history.

Area 5-A

Hebron Lions

Coach: Ian Driver

2011 record: 14-3, second round of playoffs

Returning starters: MF/F Alexa Allen, Sr.; GK Hannah Wilbanks, Sr.; DEF Mollie Russell, Sr.; F Bianca Clark, Jr.; MF Jordan Lowery, Jr.; F McKenzie Towe, Jr.; DEF/MF Rachel Boyd, Jr.; MF Sarah Boyd, Soph.

Key newcomers/other contributors: MF Alex Propst, Fr.; MF Tyler Roof, Fr.

Outlook: Hebron has eight returning starters from an area championship team, which has high hopes this season. Allen, an Auburn signee, had 22 goals and eight assists in only eight matches last season, while Clark (20 goals, 16 assists) and Lowery (eight goals, 29 assists) also were offensive sparks. Wilbanks made 112 saves as the defensive leader.

Area 4-A

Providence Stars

Coach: Andy Randrup

2011 record: 7-11

Returning starters: MF Brooke Kelly, Sr.; DEF Lauren Hoyt, Sr.; MF Andrea Latimer, Sr.; DEF Autumn Philo, Sr.; MF Marisa Askew, Sr.; DEF Kaitlen Henry, Jr.; MF Allie Petmecky, Jr.; MF Robyn Lowndes, Soph.; F Kat Slayton, Soph.; F Savannah Flynn, Soph.

Key newcomers/other contributors: MF Anna Bougas, Fr.

Outlook: The Stars are hopeful of bouncing back and making the state playoffs this season with a large group of returning starters leading the way. Kelly had 13 goals and 10 assists last season and Hoyt is the defensive leader. Randrup strengthened his coaching staff with assistant Sarah Steinmann Meadows, a former SEC player of the year at Auburn who led Providence to the 1999 state title and had a school-record 156 career goals.

Wesleyan Wolves

Coach: Lacy Gilbert

2011 record: 11-9, second round of playoffs

Returning starters: GK Hannah Duane, Sr.; DEF Abby Daws, Sr.; MF Darby Coxhead, Sr.; MF MacKenzie Hediger, Sr.; DEF Shannon Felts, Sr.; MF Savannah Newman, Sr.; DEF/MF Elise Abernathy, Sr.; MF/F Meagan Hall, Sr.; DEF Grace Hodges, Jr.; MF/F Maddie Hall, Soph.; MF/F Christina Moraitis, Soph.

Key newcomers/other contributors: GK Beth Horner, Sr.; MF Kate Williams, Sr.; MF/F Madison Jones, Jr.; MF/F Taylor Walton, Jr.; MF Meghan Sullivan, Jr.; DEF Lizzie McIntosh, Soph.; DEF Caroline Robertson, Soph.; MF/F Diane Torres, Fr.; DEF Hope Morgan, Fr.

Outlook: Eleven starters are back for the experienced Wolves, including eight seniors. A deep state playoff run is a possibility if Wesleyan plays its usual stout defense, led by veteran goalkeeper Duane (10 shutouts last season) and Daws, a center back who also scored a pair of game-winning goals.
