PREP ROUNDUP: Providence boys top Mount Pisgah to earn top seed for Region 5-A tourney

LILBURN -- Nate Bucher put in 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds Friday night in guiding Providence to a 74-65 win over Mount Pisgah.

The win moved the Stars to 16-9 overall and 6-2 in subregion 5B-A, giving the Stars the top seed for next week's region tournament, which will beging Wednesday at Holy Innocents'.

Charlie Scott also had a strong game with 21 points for Providence, while Kareem Adekunle followed with 15 points and 16 rebounds.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Peachtree Ridge 63,Collins Hill 46

SUWANEE -- Peachtree Ridge claimed the third seed for next week's Region 7-AAAAA tournament with a 63-46 win over Collins Hill on Friday night.

Jordan Capps led the Lions (16-9, 10-4) with 22 points, while Cole Romaguera added 11 points.

Collins Hill (9-16, 5-9) was led by 16 points from Devin Mitchell.

Mill Creek 64, Meadowcreek 53

HOSCHTON -- Daniel Loudermilk had 22 points on Friday night as part of Mill Creek's 64-53 win over Meadowcreek. Mill Creek finished the regular season at 19-6 overall and 10-4 in Region 7-AAAAA, putting the Hawks in the fourth seed for the region tournament next week.

Jalen Bracey added 17 points for Mill Creek, with Trevon Shaw finishing with 11 points.

Meadowcreek (5-20, 3-11) will be the seventh-seed in the tournament.

Duluth 46, Mountain View 39

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Michael Randle scored 16 points Friday night to help lift Duluth 46-39 over Mountain View. Duluth finished the regular season at 8-17 overall and 5-9 in Region 7-AAAAA.

Duluth also received 12 points from Ify Imachukwu and 10 points from Greg Blackshear.

Mountain View, which was led by 19 points from Ryan Gibbs, finished at 2-23 overall and 0-14 in the region.

Shiloh 61, Central 43

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Shiloh closed out the regular season with a 61-43 win over Central Gwinnett on Friday night.

Jordan Gaither scored 22 points to lead Shiloh (22-3, 15-1), while Robert Carter added 18 points. The win preserved the No. 1 seed in the Region 8-AAAAA tournament.

Central was led by 15 points from K. Ci. Maultsby and 10 points from Eman Westmoreland. Central (12-13, 6-10) will enter the region tournament as the No. 6 seed.

Archer 83, Grayson 79

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Archer secured the No. 3 seed for the Region 8-AAAAA tournament by holding off Grayson 83-79 on Friday night. Archer ended its regular season at 18-7 overall and 13-3 in the region.

Randall Smith led Archer with 21 points, while Tramique Anderson scored 20 more. Nafis Floyd also helped with 15 points.

Grayson (4-20, 2-14) was led by 22 points from Ryan Carter.

Berkmar 48, Dacula 42

LILBURN -- Berkmar's Yonel Brown scored 16 points Friday night in helping the Patriots to a 48-42 win over Dacula. The win secured the No. 2 seed for the Region 8-AAAAA tournament next week for Berkmar.

Brandon Thompson and Tyler Rogers each scored nine points for Berkmar (18-7, 14-2, while A.D. Rogers chipped in six points.

Dacula, which was led by 14 points from Xavier Okoro and 12 points from Anthony Morse, fell to 14-11 overall and 8-8 in the region. Dacula, which also had 11 points from Brandon Goodson, will be the fourth seed in the region tournament.

GAC 67, Cross Keys 17

NORCROSS -- Greater Atlanta Christian received 15 points from Andrew Lewis on Friday night as the Spartans pounded out a 67-17 win over Cross Keys. GAC (20-5, 8-0) will begin the Region 6-AA tournament on Monday in Decatur as the No. 1 seed.

Delano Spencer added 14 points, while Robert Armstrong chipped in with 10 points.

Hebron 47, Prince Ave. 37

BOGART -- Hebron ended its regular season on a high note Friday night with a 47-37 win over Prince Avenue Christian. The win put the Lions at 11-14 overall and in second place in the subregion. Hebron will play at George Walton Academy in the Region 8-A tournament next Wednesday against either Towns County or Riverside.

Wesleyan 62, Pinecrest 54

NORCROSS -- Wesleyan claimed the second seed for the upcoming Region 5-A tournament on Friday with a 62-54 win over Pinecrest Academy.

Will Clifton led the Wolves (16-9, 5-3) with 21 points, while Charles Mack added 14 points.

Lanier opens region tourney tonight

SUGAR HILL -- Region tournament play begins tonight, with the Lanier boys hosting Oconee County at 7:30 in a Region 8-AAA play-in game.

If Lanier wins, the Longhorns will play at Franklin County on Monday at 7:30 p.m. The Lanier girls open Region 8-AAA tournament play against White County on Tuesday at West Hall. The game is scheduled for 6 p.m.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Peachtree Ridge 44, Collins Hill 43

SUWANEE -- Peachtree Ridge moved up in the Region 7-AAAAA standings on Friday night by edging Collins Hill 44-43, vaulting the Lions (14-11, 6-8) to the fifth seed for next week's region tournament.

Stephanie Amichia and Melissa Turvy each scored 11 to lead Peachtree Ridge, while Taylor Cobb chipped in with six points.

Collins Hill fell to 12-13 overall and 5-9 in the region, taking the sixth seed for the region tournament.

Mill Creek 78, Meadowcreek 38

HOSCHTON -- Mill Creek had four players score in double figures on Friday night as the Hawks concluded their regular season with a solid 78-38 win over Meadowcreek.

Top scorers for Mill Creek were Jasmine Carter with 17 points and nine rebounds, Paige Orangio with 14 points and six boards and Madison Phillips and Nadiya Miller with 10 points each. Sierra Menzies also helped with eight assists and six points.

Mill Creek (17-8, 9-5) will be the No. 3 seed next week in the Region 7-AAAAA tournament, while Meadowcreek (5-18, 0-14) will be the eighth seed.

Duluth 61, Mountain View 52

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Duluth finished the Region 7-AAAAA regular season in fourth place on Friday night with a 61-52 win over Mountain View.

Joi Jones led Duluth (16-9, 7-7) with 16 points, while Tajai Peterson added 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Mountain View (11-14, 4-10) will play in the region tournament as the seventh seed.

Central 65, Shiloh 42

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Central Gwinnett finished the regular season in fifth place in Region 8-AAAAA, ending its regular season wtih a 65-42 win over Shiloh on Friday night.

Alexandra Frazier logged 13 points, four steals and three assists to lead Central (13-12, 9-7), while Taja Latimore added 13 points, seven rebounds and three blocks. Caryn Ivey also helped with 13 points.

Shiloh (4-20, 2-14) will be the eighth seed in the tournament.

Dacula 60, Berkmar 34

LILBURN -- Joni Weatherspoon of Dacula recorded 19 points and 11 rebounds Friday night as the Falcons closed out their regular season with a 60-34 win over Berkmar. The win improved Dacula to 7-18 overall and 6-10 in the region, putting the Falcons in the seventh seed for next week's Region 8-AAAAA tournament.

Taryn Anthony added 16 points and two assists for Dacula, while Berkmar (8-17, 6-10) was led by Daijah Cooke's 11 points. Berkmar will enter the region tournament as the No. 6 seed.

Archer 48, Grayson 18

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Archer jumped to big lead early at 21-0 and never looked back as the Tigers pulled away for a 48-18 win over Grayson. Archer improved to 17-8 overall and 11-5 in Region 8-AAAAA.

The win pulled Archer into a tie with South Gwinnett for third place in the region. A coin flip will take place today to determine who will be the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds in next week's region tournament.

Ten different players scored for Archer, led by 10 points, eight steals and five assists from Danicka Brown, the team's lone senior. Morgan Jackson added nine points, four rebounds and three steals, while Madison Newby finished with four points, four rebounds and six assists.

Grayson (4-21, 1-15) was led by eight points from Sydnie Hixson. Grayson will start the region tournament as the ninth seed.

GAC 64, Cross Keys 9

NORCROSS -- Three Greater Atlanta Christian players scored in double digits on Friday, led by 17 from Sierra Lawrence, as the Spartans rolled over Cross Keys 64-9.

Brianna Cummings added 13 points, while CiCi Buford finished with 10 points. GAC (18-7) will open the Region 6-AA tournament next Thursday at 4 p.m. against South Atlanta at Decatur.

Wesleyan 73, Pinecrest 21

NORCROSS -- All 14 players on Wesleyan's roster scored as the Wolves routed Pinecrest Academy 73-21 on Friday night, ending their regular season at 21-3 overall and a perfect 8-0 in subregion 5B-A. Wesleyan will open the Region 5-A tournament next Tuesday at Holy Innocents' as the top seed.

Holli Wilkins led Wesleyan with 12 points and six rebounds, while Nikki McDonald added 10 points, seven rebounds and seven steals. Missy Byrd also scored 10 points, while Kaelyn Causwell blocked five shots and grabbed five rebounds.

Providence 49, Mount Pisgah 29

LILBURN -- Providence's Erika Gotfredson led all scorers with 21 points on Friday night, giving the Stars a 49-29 win over Mount Pisgah.

Jessie Kowalewicz added 13 points for the Stars, who finished the regular season at 10-15 overall and 4-4 in subregion 5B-A. Providence will open its region tournament next Tuesday at Holy Innocents'.

Hebron 43, Prince Ave. 35

BOGART -- Amber Skidgel had 21 points Friday night in Hebron's 43-35 win over Prince Avenue Christian.

Hebron (13-13, 7-7) will play in the Region 8-A tournament on Monday at George Walton Academy.
