DULUTH -- Tonight, country music royalty George Strait and guest Martina McBride hit the stage at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. The two are on the road for an 11-day tour to promote Strait's album, "Here For a Good Time."

McBride, who has never toured with Strait, is excited about the opportunity to share the stage with a singer known as "The King of Country."

"He invited me to be part of the tour. It's a real honor. There's a lot of people that would kill to be on this tour, so I'm very honored," she said in a recent phone interview.

She is opening the show and has an evolving set list, but McBride knows she will be playing some tunes from her latest album, "Eleven."

"I love (the album) -- I'm really proud of it," McBride said. "It's a different sound for me. We went in and tried to have fun -- I wrote over half the record. It's more personal (of a record) than in the past. I really took the time and devoted to it."

Besides singing songs from the newer album, like "Teenage Daughters" and "I'm Gonna Love You Through It," McBride will also mix in some of her older classics, which could include hits such as "Concrete Angel," "Anyway" and "God's Will."

No matter what, she wants to have a great time with her fans at the concert.

"I want the audience to walk away with the same thing I always want: a connection -- to feel a connection and make a memory together," McBride said.

I'll be there. The Gwinnett Arena is a great venue: I saw Bob Dylan and Elvis Costello there -- on the same bill! (Odd coincidence, I'm interviewing George Strait for a country music magazine.)
