Daniel Joseph Murray, resident of Lehighton, PA and formerly of Sayre, PA, went home to our Lord on February 6, 2012 with his wife and children at his side. Dan was born August 7, 1927 in Sayre, PA, the son of the late Samuel Murray and Kathryn Novak Murray. He was preceded in death by his son, Dennis M. Murray. He is survived by his wife, Catherine J. Haluska Murray (married 62 years) and children: daughter-in-law, Susan Murray (Dowington, PA), Anne Marie & Robert Howard (Rome, PA), Mary & Robert Riddett (Lawrenceville, GA), Barbara & John Ibaugh (Buford, GA), Richard & Deborah Murray (Grayson, GA); 11 grandchildren: Christopher Murray, Hillary McLaughlin, Bryan Murray, Eileen Howard, Daryl Howard, Stephen Howard, Karl Riddett, Karinna Riddett-Moore, Peter Riddett, Nathan Murray, Ryan Murray; 10 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Dan graduated from Sayre High School and was a member of its undefeated football team. He served in the Merchant Marines, worked as an electrician, foreman, and supervisor with the Lehigh Valley Railroad and Conrail. He served as Sayre town council President and as a member of the council. He also was a member of the Ball-Skerpon Catholic War Veterans Club. He was a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Church and Epiphany Church where he sang in their choirs. He was a member of the Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church and in their Holy Name Society. Dan also served as Lector and Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist for the church, and visiting and ministering to those in nursing homes and the homebound. He was also a member of the Coal-Cracker’s chapter for the SPEBSQA. This past year, before falling ill, he completed his training at the Lehigh Valley Medial Hospital’s No One Dies Alone program. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at Tom M. Wages Lawrenceville Chapel with a Service Celebrating the Life of Mr. Murray to be held at 7:30 P.M. A Funeral Mass and burial will take place in Lehighton, PA, Monday, February 13, 2012.
