Rabid raccoon captured in Lawrenceville

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Officials said a raccoon located last week in Lawrenceville has tested positive for rabies.

The raccoon, found Jan. 30 at 1074 Bailing Road has tested positive for rabies at the state laboratory, officials announced this week. A cow at 2971 Harbins Road in Bethlehem also tested positive for rabies on Jan. 5.

Anyone who has been bitten or scratched by any stray animals, or anyone who knows of someone handling these animals, is asked to call the Gwinnett County Animal Welfare and Enforcement Bite Office at 770-339-3200, extension 5576.
