SNELLVILLE -- Local officials held a ribbon cutting for the opening of the intersection at Cambridge Street and McGee Road at U.S. 78.
The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners, Evermore Community Improvement District and the city of Snellville gathered at Westside Baptist Church at 4 p.m. Tuesday to mark the occasion.
The design of the intersection and a portion of the right-of-way and construction were funded through the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax.
Speakers at the event included Gwinnett County Board Chairman Charlotte Nash, Commissioner Mike Beaudreau, Snellville Mayor Kelly Kautz and Evermore CID Chairman Chip Adair.
The Evermore Community Improvement District is an association of property owners along U.S. 78 in Gwinnett County who voluntarily tax themselves "to make the community a great place to live, work and play."
According to its website, Evermore seeks to establish a "vibrant, upscale destination area, improve business development opportunities and enhance property values by developing and promoting coordinated transportation and community character improvements to benefit property owners and residents along the Highway 78 corridor."
