SUWANEE -- Fifth- through 12th-grade students who'd like to enroll in Gwinnett Online Campus can do so through Feb. 29.
Gwinnett Online Campus is a charter school of Gwinnett County Public Schools, which provides a fully online and supplemental educational program for local students. In August, the program is expanding to include middle school students.
Principal Christopher Ray said the school's vision is "to be a world-class K-12 education provider to Gwinnett County students ... providing access to instruction anywhere and anytime as an optimal alternative."
Added Ray: "It's a great opportunity for students, and we're glad to be able to offer it."
Both full-time charter enrollment as well as supplemental educational programs are offered through the online campus.
In March 2010 the Gwinnett County Board of Education voted to approve a charter school petition for Gwinnett Online Campus. In April of 2011, the State Board of Education approved the GOC Charter. The Gwinnett Online Campus Charter opened for high school students in 2011, and will open for middle school in 2012 and upper elementary in 2013. GOC is "committed to build upon its high level of success as a world class supplemental program to become the best fully online program in the country."
According to its website, the mission of the charter school is to "enhance the learning of students in a world-class virtual environment as we empower them with 21st century knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the local, national, and global community."
