Eastside to screen suicide prevention film

SNELLVILLE -- Eastside Heritage Center will screen a teen suicide prevention film for the public next week.

The 26-minute film titled "More Than Sad" presents vignettes of four teens who were treated for depression, and aims to teach adolescents to recognize depression in themselves or their friends. The screening will be followed by a question-and-answer session led by the metro Atlanta chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

The film is endorsed by the National Association of School Psychologists.

"Suicide devastates families and communities," Heritage Center program director Ann Wilder said. "Suicide is a key public health issue in our community but it is preventable. The first step of identifying at-risk students is knowledge and awareness."

The event -- held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Feb. 14 -- is free to attend but those interested should RSVP to Chris Owens at cowens@afsp.org or 404-374-5197. The Eastside Heritage Center is located at 2160 Fountain Drive in Snellville.
