LAWRENCEVILLE -- Officials identified Monday the woman who lost her life in a weekend fire at her Auburn home.

Gwinnett County Chief Forensic Investigator Ted Bailey said that 67-year-old Mindy Heard died of smoke and soot inhalation before firefighters were able to pull her from her burning home on the 1900 block of Flowery Branch Road.

Gwinnett County emergency crews responded to the house at about 8 p.m. Saturday, finding it fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters were able to rescue one male resident before being alerted that Heard was still inside.

"The second victim was found motionless in a front bedroom floor," fire department spokesman Lt. Eric Eberly said over the weekend. "Firefighters removed the victim from the dangerous environment only to realize that she had already expired from her injuries."

The male victim, pulled from a front hallway, was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville with "moderate" injuries, Eberly said.

The cause of the fire was initially listed as undetermined and under investigation. No new information was available Monday.
