Grace Evans Ratledge, age 93, formerly of Dodge County, Georgia, then Atlanta, and widow of James E. Ratledge of Atlanta entered into rest on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 surrounded by her family. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Marlene and her husband, Snell Buchanan and their son, James of Snellville. Remaining family include her surviving brother, Eli M. Evans and his wife Gwinnett and children of Hinesville, nephew, W.F. Woodard and niece Gail Ashley. She was preceded in death by her parents. Mrs. Ratledge was born on June 27, 1918 to Louisa Smith Evans and Eli Martin Evans, Sr., in Eastman, Georgia. She was a top selling agent for Independent and Durham Life Insurance Companies for over 15 years, before becoming a secretary at Sylvan High School, Atlanta Public Schools with over 25 years of service. Mrs. Ratledge was a member of the Ormewood Presbyterian Church in East Atlanta and enjoyed gardening, flowers, animals, and birds. Her greatest joy in life was her family, especially her grandson, James. She will be greatly missed by her family and everyone that knew this wonderful lady. The Service Celebrating the Life of Grace Evans Ratledge will be held Friday, February 3, 2012 at 12:00 o’clock at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel with Rev. Charlotte Scott officiating. Interment Snellville Historical Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
