LILBURN -- The Atlanta Braves Country Caravan is making a stop Friday at Hopkins Elementary School in Lilburn to greet students and host a rally.
Braves scheduled to participate include Matt Diaz, Brandon Beachy, Roger McDowell, Brian Snikter, Bruce Manno and Braves broadcaster Joe Simpson.
The team members plan to stop by the school at 10:15 a.m. The school is located at 1315 Dickens Road, Lilburn.
The Atlanta Braves Country Caravan hit the road Jan. 27 for a two-week tour around the southeast, aiming to travel more than 3,000 miles and make more than 40 stops before heading to Spring Training in mid-February.
Each day, Braves players, coaches and executives make community appearances, including visits to local schools, hospitals, military bases and businesses and host autograph signings at Academy Sports + Outdoors. The Braves visited the Snellville location last week, greeting more than 500 fans.
Fundraiser planned for English Bulldog Rescue
LOGANVILLE -- The English Bulldog Rescue of Georgia is planning to have a fundraising garage sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. The organization is looking for donations of items for the garage sale. Those with items to donate can drop them off at The Dog Spot, 3422 Diversified Drive, Loganville.
The fundraising effort aims to help several bulldogs that have been rescued and are in need of medical treatment as well as being spayed or neutered.

Chick-fil-A gives out scholarships
LAWRENCEVILLE -- Chick-fil-A's Leadership Scholarship program has awarded the honor to its newest recipients, Kevin Van Voorn of Loganville and Josue Acosta of Dacula.
A $1,000 scholarship was presented to Van Voorn from Chick-fil-A franchised operator Tom Van Voorn at the free-standing Chick-fil-A at Stone Mountain. Van Voorn is the 27th team member from that location to receive the honor. He currently attends Athens Technical College, studying communication.
A $1,000 scholarship was presented to Acosta from Chick-fil-A franchised operator Mark Treadwell at the free-standing restaurant at Pie Street in Dacula. Acosta is the 71st team member from that location to receive the honor. He is currently attending Georgia Gwinnett College, studying exercise science.
