Barbara Redmond

Barbara Jennings Redmond of Lawrenceville, age 79, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2012. Barbara was born and raised in Stone Mountain. Her parents moved to Stone Mountain from Sumter County Georgia as her father was one of the original sculptors commissioned for the Stone Mountain carving. Barbara retired from many years of service at DeKalb Community College where she worked in the library. During the years at DCC, she adopted many of her student assistants as her own family and remained active in their lives. She was active in the community and with her beloved church family at Lawrenceville First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Joy Class. Barbara will be remembered for her friendly spirit and her expressions of love to so many in her path each day. Her love was evidence of her faith in her Lord and Saviour. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Jim Redmond and Cindy Padnos; daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Steve Barton; grandchildren, Jason and Kimberley McDonald; sister, Shirley Brannan; her step-grandchildren and their families and many nieces, nephews and their families. The memorial service will be held at Lawrenceville First United Methodist Church on Saturday, February 4 at 1pm. Visitation with the family will be following the memorial service at the church. Contributions in her memory may be made to Lawrenceville FUMC, Family Promise Gwinnett, Lawrenceville Co-op Ministries or American Cancer Society for breast cancer research.
