LILBURN — Police have charged a Lilburn man in a double-shooting yesterday that left one person dead and another in critical condition.

Gwinnett police arrested Jamell Richmond, 40, late Tuesday on one count of murder and two counts of aggravated assault. A motive in shootings was not released.

Police identified the slain man as Demarcus Collins, 29, who lived at the 2010 Pucketts Drive duplex where the shootings happened. Collins died a short time after being transported from the scene, police said.

The other victim, Tucker resident Monica Tamez, 32, was hospitalized in critical condition but is expected to survive her injuries, said Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter.

The investigation is ongoing, Ritter said.

Responding to a report of gunshots, Gwinnett police arrived at the two-story home off U.S. Highway 78 to find the victims wounded inside the home about 6:45 a.m. Tuesday.

Ritter said several people were inside the house at the time of the shooting. Richmond was not on the scene when police arrived but was soon identified as a person of interest.

Gwinnett police have no record of responding to the address recently, Ritter said.
