DECATUR — The Norcross boys basketball team recorded an impressive first-round victory in the Converse Invitational, defeating Mississippi’s second-ranked team late Wednesday night at Columbia.
The Blue Devils (6-4) downed Meridian 59-44 to advance to today’s quarterfinals of the 16-team tournament, where they will face defending Florida Class AAAAAA state champion Miami Norland in the final game of the evening.
Norland defeated Tucker 55-46 in its quarterfinal game Wednesday night.
Meridian (13-3) won a Mississippi Class AAAAAA state title in 2011, the same year that Norcross won a state championship in the largest classification in Georgia.
Norcross led 27-24 at halftime and increased the lead to 43-33 going into the fourth quarter.
