Two house fires were reported Thursday evening in Gwinnett.

According to Capt. Tommy Rutledge with the Gwinnett County Fire Department, crews responded to two separate house fires in Duluth and Buford just before 6 p.m.

Firefighters responded to a fire in a two-story house in the 4700 block of Fairway View Court Northwest in Duluth.

Initial reports indicated flames coming from the fireplace in the family room that spread through the main level and up to the second floor and attic of the two-story wood frame house.

Water damage was also reported due to the firefighting efforts along with some fire damage to the roof as crews worked to bring the fire under control.

One female occupant was treated and released at the scene and no other injuries were reported.

Three engines and one ladder truck responded to the fire.

In Buford, firefighters are trying to determine the cause of a house fire in the 200 block of Brookcliff Drive Northeast.

The blaze caused heavy damage to the second floor and attic of a large two-story wood frame and brick home, plus extensive water and smoke damage to the main level and basement.

A total of five engines and one ladder truck responded to the blaze and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the second floor, attic and roof.

No one was home at the time when the fire erupted and no injuries were reported.

Initial reports indicate the fire broke out from a second-floor bedroom in the house.
