Yellow Jackets' Heyward tears ACL a second time

ATLANTA -- Corey Heyward hadn't been able to take the court with the other Georgia Tech freshman this season.

Now, the former Peachtree Ridge standout may have even suffered a setback for next year.

Heyward, who tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in June, tore the same ligament again in an unsupervised workout this month. He had surgery Dec. 13 and will begin his rehabilitation again.

"He'll start the rehab right away," coach Brian Gregory said last week. "Sometimes, these things happen and he's a tough kid. He'll come back full strength as soon as he possibly can."

Heyward, a 6-foot guard, played a prep season at Hargrave Military Academy last season after finishing his career at Peachtree Ridge. His late father, Craig, was a former NFL standout and brother Cameron plays with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
