Raymond E. Collins of Woodridge passed away on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at Achieve Nursing Home, Liberty, NY. He was 88. He was the son of the late George and Iva Collins born on April 25, 1924, in Richmond, VA. Raymond proudly served our country in the United States Navy during WWII and served his time aboard the USS Mayrant, a destroyer. Raymond was a loving and giving father and someone who always believed in giving a hard day’s work for an honest dollar. There were times he worked two or sometimes three jobs to support his family. He also helped his sons with their paper routes in winter times and a lawn cutting business in the summer. Raymond loved sports, aspired to be a professional baseball player one day, just like his boyhood acquaintance Granny Hamner. His high school team managed to win their HS Championship title where he played as a catcher for the team. He also managed his sons little league team. He was an avid bowler who carried a 190+ average and played in a number of leagues in the area. Raymond was a long time employee of Inter County Co-op, where he worked for many years as a truck driver and later as a dispatcher. Raymond was married to Anna Pirnos Collins and had three children. After 31 years of marriage to Anna she passed away and he remarried Helen Roettger Collins. He again had a successful 28 year marriage before Helen succumbed to a brain tumor. He is survived by his three children Raymond J. Collins of Atlanta, Ga., estranged from son George R. Collins, daughter –in-law Judy Collins, of Mountaindale, NY and Joan I. Collins of Woodridge, NY., his siblings Richard Collins, and Clifford (Sug) Collins all of Richmond, VA., several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife Anna Pirnos Collins, his second wife Helen Roettger Collins and his brother George (Bubba) Collins. Visitation will be on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home 396 State Route 52 Woodbourne, NY 12788 from 2-4:00pm & 7-9:00pm. A funeral service will be on Thursday evening at the funeral home at 8:00pm. Interment of ashes will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery.
