Penny Jayne Cook Carlisle Harger went home to the Lord on December 13, 2012 following complications from surgery at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, GA. Penny was born August 10, 1950 in Chamblee, GA. She moved to Lake Odessa, MI and later returned to GA to live in Rockmart. Penny graduated from Rockmart High School in 1968 and then attended Georgia State University, graduating in 1974 with a B.S. in Psychology. She returned to Georgia State University to earn an M.Ed. in Counseling Psychology in 1984. After becoming board certified as a Licensed Professional Counselor in 1988, Penny went into private practice and for the next 25 years provided counseling services to numerous clients. Penny committed her life to Christ and was baptized on August 28, 2005 by her uncle, Rev. Raymond Cook, becoming a member of his congregation at Antioch Baptist Church in Albertville, AL. Penny possessed a boundless compassion for service, as well as an intellectual curiosity that spanned a wide variety of interests, including history, religion, politics, art, travel, hiking, gardening, and caring for her ever expanding menagerie of pets. She lived life fully and deeply, always touching the lives of those who came to know her in a positive way. She will be missed, but the impression she made on lives will be permanent. Penny is survived by her husband, James R. Harger of Snellville, GA, her daughter, Margaret Kate Carlisle of Sharpsburg, GA, and her step-daughter, Emma Faith Harger of Decatur, GA. Penny was preceded by her father, Ralph Cook and her mother, Patricia Earle. A Service Celebrating the Life of Penny Harger will be held Sunday, December 23, 2012 at 4PM at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel, with Rev. Rodney Massey officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday, December 22, 2012 from 3PM until 6PM at the funeral home.
