William Lewis “Wild Bill” Lester, age 72 of Lilburn, passed away Friday, December 14th, 2012, surrounded by family and friends. He was born and raised in Rockmart, Georgia. He graduated in 1958 from Rockmart High School. He joined the U.S. Army in 1960, 7th Infantry Division and served during the Korean conflict.......After discharge, he moved to Atlanta in 1963 where he met and married Becky Brown. They made their home in Tucker for 27 years and later moved to their current home in Lilburn. Bill worked for Kearney Company for 34 years as a customer relations manager. He retired from Mrs. Smith’s Bakeries, Inc. in 2003. Bill was a true patriot and passionate about the military. He loved nature and being in the woods, especially during hunting season. He was a loyal and rabid “Georgia Bulldogs” fan. Bill was a member of the “over the hill” breakfast club and active in his Sunday School class at Lawrenceville Road United Methodist Church. He cherished his years at Rockmart High School and delighted in the part he played in their 50th reunion. Bill was an avid reader and could discuss “anything with anybody at anytime”. He excelled at chronicling his family history and was the unofficial family photographer. His infamous wit, “musings” and email dissertations are well loved. He adored his family and friends and never forgot a birthday or special event. He was larger than life and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Bill was preceded in death by his father, Mr. Lewis DeWitt Lester. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Becky Brown Lester; daughter, Stacey Lester, Lilburn; son, Jeremy Lester, Buford; mother, Jewel Philpot Lester, Jackson; brother, Gary (Jenny)Jackson; sister-in-law, Lynn Levins (Charles); brother-in-law, Keith Brown (Kathy); nephews, Bo Levins; Will Levins; Walt Lester (Cathy); Jake Brown (Lindsay); Sam Brown; Joe David Brown; and Tucker Brown; nieces, Natalie Crabtree (David ); Madelyn Davis (Allen); and Haley Brown; 8 great nieces and nephews and many other cherished relatives. Visitation will be held Thursday, December 20th at 10:00 a.m. at Lawrenceville Road United Methodist Church in Tucker, Georgia, with the Memorial Service following at 11:00. Graveside Service will be at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton at 2:00.
