DULUTH -- A district-level leader with Gwinnett County Public Schools has been tapped for the principal post at Duluth High School.
The decision came during a special called meeting Monday morning, in which the Gwinnett County Board of Education voted 4-0 on the measure.
In the next several weeks, Anthony Smith, who currently serves as curriculum director of mathematics in the division of teaching and learning, will take the helm at Duluth High School.
The school's former principal, Jason Lane, recently moved to Mill Creek after former Mill Creek leader Jim Markham retired to battle cancer.
Smith has served as curriculum director of mathematics for two years. He has also worked as an assistant principal at North Gwinnett High and a teacher at Mill Creek.
During Monday's meeting, Superintendent J. Alvin Wilbanks said that the transition could occur soon, "hopefully as early as January."
