ATHENS -- Curtis Dennis hit a 3-pointer with 20.5 seconds left in overtime as Iona rallied past the struggling Georgia Bulldogs for an 81-78 win on Saturday.
Iona (4-4) trailed 76-75 after Georgia's Kenny Gaines hit a jumper with 34 seconds left in extra time. Dennis then scored his only three points of the game to put the Gaels ahead 78-76.
Georgia's Nemanja Djurisic had a chance to tie the game from the free-throw line with 3.5 seconds left and the Bulldogs trailing 79-77, but missed one of two shots. The Bulldogs (2-7) finished 20-for-37 from the foul line, missing 11 of their final 17 attempts.
Lamont Jones -- the seventh-leading scorer in the country entering play on Saturday -- led four Iona players in double figures with 25 points. Sean Armand added 18 points, including a 3-pointer with 54 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 66 and force overtime.
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds for Georgia while freshman Charles Mann added a career-high 18 points off the bench. Donte' Williams added 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Bulldogs, who have lost seven of eight.
Notes: Georgia trailed by 12 points eight minutes into the game, but rallied to take a 36-35 halftime lead on Caldwell-Pope's half-court shot at the buzzer. ... Iona freshman A.J. English scored a career-high 17 points. ... Jones has scored at least 20 points in six of the Gaels' eight games.
