Archer High School cheerleaders recently showed support for a national initiative that aims to garner support for troops in Afghanistan.

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Students at Archer High School are showing support for a national organization that provides assistance to the 68,000 American troops serving in Afghanistan.

The Archer Competition Cheer Squad put together a banner recently in honor of the group, Spirit of America, a nonprofit organization providing deployed American troops with support as part of the 68,000 Remember campaign.

"Most people don't know that we still have 68,000 troops deployed to Afghanistan," said Jim Hake, founder and CEO of SOA. "Our troops are serving and sacrificing while we enjoy the holidays here at home."

Added Hake: "Our goal is to get 68,000 Americans to remember our troops in Afghanistan by uploading a photo to our Wall of Support on our website and Facebook. We want to let the men and women who serve America know they are not forgotten."

Those interested can also make donations of $10 by texting "troops" to 20222. All donations made through the campaign will be used to provide U.S. troops with needed support in Afghanistan.
