PREP ROUNDUP: Duluth girls beat Mountain View in OT

DULUTH -- Duluth pulled away in overtime to defeat Mountain View 55-46 in Region 7-AAAAAA girls basketball Friday night.

Katie Powell and Joi Jones led the Wildcats (5-3, 3-2) with 23 and 12 points, respectively. The Bears (6-3, 2-3) were led by Aneysa Williams' 17 points and Kelsey Hutchins' eight.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

North Gwinnett 51, Peachtree Ridge 38

SUWANEE -- North Gwinnett overcame a sluggish start and defeated Peachtree Ridge 51-38 in Region 7-AAAAAA action Friday night.

The Bulldogs (7-0, 5-0) trailed 3-2 but that was the last time the Lions would lead. Stephanie Amichia led North with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Peyton Whitted and Joshlyn Belcher added 12 and 10 points, respectively. The Lions were led by Mellisa Turvy, who had 18 points, and Lorrie Cruse added 13 with 11 rebounds.

Parkview 54, Archer 29

LILBURN -- Parkview had little trouble in defeating Region 8-AAAAAA rival Archer 54-29 Friday night.

The Panthers remained unbeaten, improving their record to 9-0 and 5-0 in the region. Vickie Harris led the Panthers with 14. Genesis Perrymond contributed 11 points and Mia Marshall netted 10.

Archer fell to 6-2 and 4-2 in the region. Madison Newby led the Tigers with 14 rebounds and six rebounds and six steals.

Berkmar 48, Grayson 23

LOGANVILLE -- Berkmar defeated Grayson 48-23 in a Region 8-AAAAAA matchup Friday night. The Patriots (4-6, 3-3) never trailed the Rams.

Nina Williams led Berkmar with 13 points while teammate Daijah Cook added 11 points and five assists.

South Gwinnett 42, Brookwood 37

SNELLVILLE -- South Gwinnett led from the start and hung on for a 42-37 win over Brookwood on Friday night.

The Regiona 8-AAAAAA contest saw the Comets (6-4, 3-2) lead by as many as eight points but its lead was cut to one in the fourth quarter. South made its free throws down the stretch to secure the win. Jashawna Johnson and Arielle Harvey paced the Comets with 11 points apiece while Kierra Clayton added 10 for the victors.

Wesleyan 56, Holy Innocents' 40

NORCROSS -- Wesleyan defeated Holy Innocents' 56-40 in a physical game Friday night.

The Wolves improved to 7-0 on the season behind Katie Frerking's 18 points, five rebounds and five steals. Brittany Stevens contributed 12 points and seven steals while Kendra Tally pitched 12 points for Wesleyan.

Norcross 79, Habersham 28

MT. AIRY -- Diamond Deshields poured in 30 points and had 10 steals to lead Norcross to a 79-28 win over Habersham on Friday night.

The win improved the Blue Devils record to 7-1 overall and 4-0 in Region 7-AAAAAA. Shayla Cooper had nine points and Sierra Butler had eight points and six rebounds for the Norcross team that had seven players score eight or more points.

Central Gwinnett 55, Shiloh 42

SNELLVILLE -- Central Gwinnett defeated Shiloh 55-42 in Region 8-AAAAAA action Friday night.

Central (7-3, 3-2) was paced by Alexandra Frazier, who scored 16. Keisha Washington had 12 points and 13 rebounds and Carol Reynolds had 12 points and 11 rebounds. Shiloh (0-5) was led by Bria Ratliff, who scored 15 while Uche Ibebunjo and Devita White each scored 11.

Providence Christian 50, Hebron Christian 21

LILBURN -- Aubrey Gold outscored the entire Hebron Christian roster in leading the Storm to a 50-21 Region 8-A victory Friday night. Gold scored 23 points, hauled in 11 rebounds and recorded nine assists on the night. Jessie Kowalewicz helped the Storm's (4-3) effort by netting nine points.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Peachtree Ridge 63, North Gwinnett 54

SUWANEE -- Peachtree Ridge led from the start and handed North Gwinnett its first region loss, 63-54, on Friday night. The Region 7-AAAAAA win improved the Lions record to 7-3, 4-1 in the Region.

Aaron Augustin led Peachtree Ridge with 17 points. Jordan Capps and Sydney Scurlark chipped in with 12 and 11, respectively.

Shiloh 62, Central Gwinnett 58

SNELLVILLE -- Nate Mason scored 18 points to lift Shiloh to a 62-58 win over Central Gwinnett. The Generals moved to 6-1 and 4-1 in Region 8-AAAAAA with the victory. Central (5-5, 1-4) used 27 points from Shaun Jones and Ryan Egejuru added 17.

Archer 56, Parkview 47

LILBURN -- Archer improved to 9-1 and 6-0 in Region 8-AAAAAA with a 56-47 win over Parkview Friday night. Bryan Hamlet led the Archer charge with 20 points. Nafis Boyd pitched in with 12 points and Randall Smith added 10 points and 10 rebounds for Archer. Parkview was paced by T.J. Jones's 16 points.

Berkmar 57, Grayson 55

LOGANVILLE -- Berkmar nearly squandered a 14-point lead heading into the fourth quarter but held on for a 57-55 win over Grayson in Region 8-AAAAAA Friday night.

The Rams (4-5, 1-4) fourth quarter comeback saw them tie the game at 55, but Berkmar made two free throws down the stretch and a final shot for Grayson failed to drop. Tim Rowe led the Patriots with 16 points and Marquise Lanier led the Rams with 25.

Brookwood 55, South Gwinnett 47 OT

SNELLVILLE -- Brookwood's R.J. Smith hit a free throw with two seconds left in regulation to tie the game and the Broncos outscored South Gwinnett 15-7 in overtime to beat the Comets 55-47 Friday night.

Brookwood trailed South but held the Comets to two points in the final quarter to eventually tie the game and send it into overtime. Khalil Abdullah led the Broncos 8-2, 4-2) with 18 points and Kendall Joseph chipped in with 13. South Gwinnett (3-7, 1-4) was led by Brandon Williams' 14 points and Cam Moye's nine.

Duluth 60, Mountain View 50

DULUTH -- Shamus Goss and Bryce Wooten each scored 15 points to lead Duluth to a 60-50 win over Mountain View Friday night. Wooten also pulled down 10 rebounds for the Wildcats (6-3, 2-3). Obinna Ofodile also aided the Duluth effort with 13 points, 10 rebounds and six blocks. Jordan Dilwood and Andre Joseph each had 14 points for the Bears.

Hebron Christian 63, Providence Christian 46

LILBURN -- Tyler Skidgel poured in 26 points to lead Hebron Christian to a 63-46, Region 8-A win Friday night. Cory Johnson added 16 points for the Lions (3-4, 1-0).

Lanier 56, Chestatee 29

GAINESVILLE -- Lanier improved to 5-4 with a 56-29 win over Chestatee on Friday night. Jordan Harper led the Longhorns with 19 points while teammate J.C. Williams added 14.

Norcross 52, Habersham 21

Mt. AIRY -- Norcross remained unbeaten in Region 7-AAAAAA with a 52-21 win over Habersham Friday night. The Blue Devils (6-2, 4-0) were led by Andre Chatfield and Brandon Goodwin, who each scored 13. Ricky Madison added 11 for Norcross.

Apalachee 73, Loganville 72

LOGANVILLE- Apalachee's Jermaine Smith went coast to coast and hit a layup at the buzzer to lift Apalachee to a 73-72 win over Loganville in Region 8-AAAAA Friday night. With 5.5 seconds left, Loganville's Taquean Dixson hit two free throws to give the Red Devils (6-3, 2-3) the lead. Dixson led both teams with 22 points including 12 in the fourth quarter. Apalachee (6-2-3-2) was led by Cameron Blakley who had 14 points. Kamar Baldwin and Ahmed Ahmed had 12 and 11 each.

Holy Innocents' 56, Wesleyan 46

NORCROSS- Wesleyan dropped a 56-46 decision to Holy Innocents' Friday night.

The Wolves ( 3-5) were led by Will Clifton, who had 23 points. Jaylen Clarke added eight for Wesleyan.
