DULUTH -- Barbara Howard is the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce's Citizen of the Year, leaders announced Friday.
The proprietor of Suzanna's Kitchen will be awarded the honor for her philanthropy as a supporter of the Gwinnett Medical Center Foundation.
Howard was named the 2012 Philanthropist of the Year at the Chamber's Healthcare Excellence Awards earlier this month, but will accept the higher honor at the organization's "Annual Dinner," a black-tie-optional gala planned for Feb. 1.
At the Feb. 1 ceremony, the leaders will also honor a mayor, a judge and several others with Public Service Awards. The winners are Juvenile Court Judge Stephen Franzen, Duluth Mayor Nancy Harris, School Board Member Mary Kay Murphy, as well as Paige Havens, Joe McCart and David McCleskey.
The R. Wayne Shackelford Legacy Award will go to Barbara King of Primerica.
Two nonprofits will receive D. Scott Hudgens Humanitarian Awards: the Jackson Jinright Foundation and the Partnership Against Domestic Violence.
The annual event begins with cocktails at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1 at the Gwinnett Center's ballroom in Duluth.
