Philip W. Taylor, 89, an 18 yr. resident of Barrow county and a previous 38 yr. resident of Alanta passed away 12/4/12. He was preceded in death by his first wife Patricia Christman and second wife Helen Blakeman. He is survived by his daughter, Laura T. Cobb and son-in law J. Cricket Cobb also of Barrow County. Also by Mark and Robert Whitman of New Jersey, Beth Whitman of Seattle, Wa. and James Whitman of Oregon. Mr. Taylor was born in Lynchburg, Va. and moved to Montgomery, Al. because of the death of his father in 1939. He attended Auburn Univ. for 2 yrs and then joined the Merchant Marine as an able bodied seaman on a Windjammer sailing vessel to patrol the eastern coast. He also served in escorting ships through the Panama Canal. After Pearl Harbor, he joined the Air Force and became a radio operator on a B29 that flew many bombing missions out of Guam where he was stationed. He also trained with other squadrons for the Atom Bomb drop mission that eventually ended WWII. After the war he earned a degree in advertising from ICS and when Television began to develop, moved to Atlanta to work with WAGA, where he was a Production Manager for the studio. He and a partner developed the program “Two Bells TV Edition” sponsored by the fledging Atlanta Transit System. It was a weekly news program about happenings in Atlanta. He and his brother in law, Norman Whitman had a small advertising agency together for awhile and after that he did advertising for several department stores and Jim Scott Piano and Organ. In his retirement he painted many paintings and sold them and won prizes for his efforts. He was a kind and honest person who loved his art and his country.
