SUWANEE -- Plans for a new middle school in the Peachtree Ridge Cluster are coming together.
On Thursday, the Gwinnett County Board of Education voted 5-0 to approve a $16.9 million bid to build a Peachtree Ridge Cluster Middle School at 1221 Northbrook Parkway in Suwanee.
Funding for construction was earmarked in the fourth iteration of the voter-approved education special purpose local option sales tax.
According to District Spokeswoman Sloan Roach, the Peachtree Ridge Cluster Middle School -- which would be the second middle school in the cluster -- will relieve Hull Middle, which serves more than 2,200 students.
Schools in the Peachtree Ridge Cluster include Burnette, Jackson, Mason and Parsons elementary schools, Hull Middle School and Peachtree Ridge High School.
The attendance zone for the new school has not been drawn yet, and the school has not been officially named.
The new school is scheduled to open in August 2014.
In other business Thursday, the board heard an update regarding the eCLASS (Content, Learning, Assessment and Support System) initiative. Funded by the most recent iteration of the education special purpose local option sales tax, which was approved by Gwinnett County voters in November 2011, the program is part of planned technology upgrades earmarked in the ballot language.
As part of the initiative, users can access the Parent Portal, Student Portal and a new electronic gradebook and attendance module. Teachers will be able to track and manage classroom data using browser-based technologies -- or a Teacher Portal -- allowing them to enter grades from any location using a compatible device with Internet access.

How about using the money that Wilbanks has earmarked for his Chamber of Commerce money laundering scheme.

Why dont you just bus them over to Lanier High School where they still dont even use the top two floors of the building because of "Lack of Students" !!!
All taxpayers in our county should be slapped in the face as hard as they can to wake up and stop this madness and the crooks that run our county. They ruined an entire school district to make their pockets fat and now they are building again?
My new plan is to tell my kids forget about college, go to work for the Gwinnett County Commission or get on a Gwinnett ran Board or something so can acuire tax money and land and support the hundreds of emty strip malls and schools, and be ready to buy up land on the misfortunes of others and be able to get the tax payers to pay for another not needed facility that lines your pockets with the tax payers cash base on your financial actions with the local realtor that also sits next to you on the Chamber or commission.... idiots.
