Special Photo One hundred and forty first-year medical students and 109 pharmacy students at GA--PCOM received their white coats in a ceremony at the Atlanta Marriott Gwinnett Place in Duluth.
First-year medical and pharmacy students at Georgia Campus -- Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine recently celebrated the beginning of their new careers at White Coat Ceremonies.
A significant rite of passage, the White Coat Ceremony is a tradition at most medical schools during which students don their first white coats symbolizing the art and science of healing.
The traditional medical white coat is designed to establish a psychological contract that stresses the importance of compassionate care for the patient and professionalism as well as scientific proficiency.
