SNELLVILLE -- So this year, Oreos and Life Savers have celebrated 100 years on this planet. Wednesday afternoon, Ivy Morgan of Grayson did, too.
The centenarian celebrated the big day at Calvin Cove Elder Care Ministry at Westminster Presbyterian Church with several of her friends and family members. During the 30-minute party, Morgan blew out candles, opened presents and ate chocolate cake with ice cream.
While talking with everyone who attended the soiree, Morgan, a former British resident, reminisced about the days of cycling 100 miles around the city of London on a regular basis.
"I used to belong to a cycling club in England and we would cycle about 100 miles on Saturday and Sunday," she said. "I guess that's what kept me healthy. I also have a cup from being a high climber."
Her son John Morgan and daughter-in-law Jan Morgan were present for the party telling facts of the 100-year-old's life.
"She has played tennis at Wimbledon -- not during the big tournament, but on the grass courts," John Morgan said.
Jane Morgan added, "She lived through the bombing blaze in London."
When living through so many years, she has learned a thing or two. When asked her advice for 20-somethings, she just laughed.
"I don't really know," Morgan said. "Staying healthy, maybe."
To stay young at heart, the centenarian goes to karaoke in Loganville every Saturday night with John and Jan, and dances to her favorite songs, like "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" by The Tokens.
Most people are surprised about Ivy's age. She loves to tell strangers she "was born on 12/12/12, the year the Titanic went down, you know."
