A wrong-way crash on Ga. Highway 8 on Monday afternoon claimed the lives of two Norcross residents.
Jess Williard Haygood, 80, and a passenger, Sara Pauline Haygood, 67, were riding in a 1992 Honda Accord when they were hit by Winder resident Kristina Marie Brown, 27, who crossed the center line and hit the Haygoods' vehicle head on, said Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright.
The crash happened in Barrow County east of the Gwinnett County line, Wright said.
Brown, who was driving a 2003 GMC Envoy, was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center for treatment. The Haygoods, both from Norcross, died in the crash, which happened at about 2:25 p.m., Wright said.
Wright said a blood sample was taken from Brown to determine if alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash. Charges are pending the completion of a follow-up investigation by the GSP Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team from Gainesville, Wright said.
