PREP ROUNDUP: Chatfield leads Norcross boys 71-57 over Meadowcreek

NORCROSS -- Andre Chatfield, who hit three of Norcross' nine 3-pointers, scored 18 points as the Blue Devils improved to 3-0 in Region 7-AAAAAA and 4-2 overall with a 71-57 victory over visiting Meadowcreek on Tuesday night.

Will Gibbons had 15 points for Norcross and Thomas Cameron scored 12. Austin Robinson made four 3-pointers and led Meadowcreek (3-6, 1-4) with 15 points.

Norcross broke the game open by outscoring the Mustangs 39-17 in the middle two quarters. Meadowcreek trailed 54-28 going into the final period.

Norcross, already shorthanded because of players still with the football team, also played without high-scoring guard Brandon Goodwin. Coach Jesse McMillan sat the senior because of a violation of team rules.

Meadowcreek used 3-pointers to cut into the Norcross lead in the fourth quarter and matched the Blue Devils with nine baskets from behind the arc.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Brookwood 60, Dacula 58

DACULA -- Deion Dedeaux of Brookwood sank a pair of free throws with 0.5 of a second left on Tuesday night to lift the Broncos 60-58 over Dacula in Region 8-AAAAAA.

Dedeaux finished with 11 points, while Kendall Joseph scored 21 to lead the Broncos (7-2, 3-2). Khalil Abdullah also finished with 13 points for Brookwood.

Dacula (6-2, 3-2) received a game-high 24 points from Kevon Tucker.

Peachtree Ridge 79, Mill Creek 49

HOSCHTON -- Peachtree Ridge placed five players in double figures and improved to 3-1 in Region 7-AAAAAA and 6-3 overall with a 79-49 victory at Mill Creek on Tuesday night.

Quinton Mc Bride had 14 points, Amir Warnock and Aaron Augustin 13 each, and Jordan Capps and Brandon Johnson both had 11 for the Lions. Trevon Shaw scored 10 points for Mill Creek (2-3, 7-3).

Shiloh 49, Grayson 47

SNELLVILLE -- Shiloh trailed by three at halftime but put together enough offense in the second half to post at 49-47 win over Shiloh in Region 8-AAAAAA.

Trayvon Reed led Shiloh (4-1, 3-1) with 12 points, five rebounds and two blocks, while Cordell Rhymer added 11 points and eight rebounds.

Grayson (4-4, 1-3) was led by 13 points from Damian Young and 12 points each from Marquise Lanier and Austin Morris. Robert Nkemdiche led the team in rebounds with 10.

Central 69, Parkview 41

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Central Gwinnett upended Parkview 69-41 on Tuesday night for the Black Knights' first win in Region 8-AAAAAA.

Leading scorer for Central (5-4, 1-3) was Shaun Jones with 12 points, while Eman Westmoreland added 10 points.

Parkview's T.J. Thomas was the top scorer of the night with 17 points.

Habersham Central 47, Mountain View 46

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Habersham Central edged Mountain View 47-46 on Tuesday night in a Region 7-AAAAAA battle.

Mountain View (1-6, 0-4), which was led by nine points from Caleb Scott, carried a lead into the fourth quarter, but went scoreless the entire period while allowing the Raiders to battle back.

Lanier 53, Lumpkin Co. 45

DAHLONEGA -- Lanier trailed Lumpkin County 43-42 with two minutes remaining, but closed out the game with a 10-2 run for a 53-45 win over the Indians.

Leading the charge for Lanier was Jordan Harper with 18 points. Lanier evened its record at 4-4.

Apalachee 73, Madison Co. 47

WINDER -- Apalachee ran its record to 5-2 on Tuesday night with a 73-47 thumping of Madison County in a non-region game.

Rakim Peters logged 14 points and four steals to lead the Wildcats, while Cameron Blakley added 14 points, eight rebounds and three blocks.

Buford 102, East Hall 60

GAINESVILLE -- Buford topped the century mark on Tuesday night by blowing out East Hall 102-60 in the Wolves' Region 7-AAA opener.

Buford (2-3, 1-0) had six players score in double figures, led by 21 points from Kyle Doyle. A.J. Davis followed with 17 points, while Brad Mapes chipped in with 13 points. Rounding out the attack was Isaiah Williams with 13 points and Austin Pickett and D'Marcus Simonds with 10 points each.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Norcross 77, Meadowcreek 31

NORCROSS -- With North Carolina coach Sylvia Hatchell watching, Tar Heels recruit Diamond DeShields scored 21 points in less than three quarters as Norcross routed visiting Meadowcreek 77-31 on Tuesday night.

Sierra Butler added 15 points and Sydney Marshall scored 12 for the Blue Devils, who improved to 3-0 in Region 7-AAAAAA and 6-1 overall.

Skylar Robinson led Meadowcreek (1-8, 0-5) with nine points.

Grayson 67, Shiloh 60 OT

SNELLVILLE -- Grayson won its first Region 8-AAAAAA game of the season on Tuesday night with a 67-60 win in overtime over Shiloh.

Grayson trailed by 10 at the half but rallied to take a 39-38 lead by the end of the third. The fourth period ended with both teams knotted at 56-56, sending the game into overtime where the Rams (3-5, 1-3) outscored the Generals 11-4 for the win.

Shakara Burton led Grayson with 15 points and six steals, while two players in Jessica Ewing (11 points, 14 rebounds) and Tiara James (10 points, 10 rebounds) each recorded double-doubles. Lyndsay Parris also helped in the win with nine points.

Brookwood 47, Dacula 31

DACULA -- Brookwood notched a Region 8-AAAAAA win on Tuesday night by beating Dacula 47-31.

Courtney Gardner led Brookwood (7-2, 3-2) with 14 points, while Nija Kurien scored 13. Michaela Guffie played well with 14 rebounds and nine points, while Rebecca Walker recorded 11 rebounds.

Faustine Aifuwa led Dacula (3-5, 2-3) by posting a double-double with 12 rebounds and 10 points. The Falcons also received nine points from Anazjah Mayes and 10 boards and five points from Star Toomey.

Parkview 72, Central 42

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Marissa Mandeldove of Parkview scored 21 points on Tuesday night as the Panthers rolled to a 72-42 win over Central Gwinnett in Region 8-AAAAAA.

The Panthers (8-0, 4-0) also received 14 points from Victoria Harris and 13 points from Makenna Pouengue.

Mountain View 46, Habersham Central 38

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Mountain View improved to 6-2 overall and 2-2 in Region 7-AAAAAA on Tuesday night with a hard-fought 46-38 win over Habersham Central.

Iceis Walker was the top scorer for the Bears with 15 points, while Kelsey Hutchins chipped in with seven points.

Habersham was led by 16 points from Haley Gerrin and 13 points from Carly Sales.

Mill Creek 55, Peachtree Ridge 36

HOSCHTON -- Three Mill Creek players hit for double digits in points as the Hawks pulled away for a 55-36 win over Peachtree Ridge on Tuesday night in Region 7-AAAAAA.

Leading scorer for Mill Creek (6-4, 3-1) was Nadiya Miller, while India Dillard (10 points, four rebounds) and Madison Phillips (10 points, three rebounds) each contributed. Meredith Schulte also chipped in with six points and six rebounds.

Peachtree Ridge (3-5, 1-3) was led by 10 points from Melissa Turvy and eight points and six rebounds from Lorrie Cruse.

Lanier 43, Lumpkin Co. 36

DAHLONEGA -- Lanier bumped its record up to 3-5 by posting a 43-36 win over Lumpkin County on Tuesday night.

Shelby Threlkeld led the Longhorns with 18 points, while Taylor-Rose Gibson-Green followed with eight points and 10 rebounds.

Buford 64, East Hall 21

GAINESVILLE -- Buford opened its Region 7-AAA schedule with a 64-21 rout of East Hall on Tuesday night.

The Wolves (3-1, 1-0) had three players score in double digits, led by a 16-point effort from Kaela Davis. Bree Horrocks followed with 14 points, while MacKenzie Darrah finished with 10 points.

WRESTLING

Berkmar defeats Tucker

TUCKER -- Berkmar's dual meet record moved to 12-11 on Tuesday night as the Patriots split, defeating Tucker 42-36 and falling to Lakeside-DeKalb 39-28.

The Patriots had five wrestlers go 2-0 on the night in Alessandro Araujo at 113 pounds, Ethan Castaneda at 138, Rehmat Khan at 145, Adderly Quintanilla at 220 and Darshaughn Lee-Green at 285.
