LETTERS: Middle class needs tax cut

Middle class needs renewal of tax cuts

Our nation needs economic growth, and it needs it now.

Sadly, the U.S. Congress, including Congressman Rob Woodall, is holding back our economy again by refusing to pass the tax-cut extension for middle-class families, even though both parties agree on this extension.

This tax cut extension for middle-class families passed the U.S. Senate nearly six months ago with both Democratic and Republican support.

If Congress does not take action, a small business owner earning $120,000 could be hit with a tax hike of as much as $4,600 and middle-class families could see their taxes increase by $2,200.

Both parties must work together to pass a renewal of tax cuts for the middle class, so both American families and small business owners have a sense of certainty at this critical time for the economy.

It's time for Congress to join President Obama in fighting for the American people.

Fiscal cliff debate like playing poker

I urge President Obama and the Democrats to hold out (if necessary) to let the Bush tax cuts expire, rather than giving in on getting the desired tax hike on the top 2 percent and raising the eligibility on Medicare from 65 to 67.

After the new Congress is sworn in, we can pass the middle class tax hikes, a stimulus package to create jobs and extend unemployment benefits. Raising the Medicare age does not result in cost savings. Let's "get a grip" and stay focused.

The "lame ducks" don't have anything to lose. The next group of Congressional Republicans cannot be associated with refusing to vote for middle class tax cuts.

Haven't you ever played poker seriously before?

That is some awesome kool ade you guys are drinking. Some time soon the federal government is going to have to start cutting spending. All the [D] are talking about right now is slightly slowing the rate of spending increases.

Actually, the super committee that Obama assembled really struggled to even figure out how to slow the rate of government spending, much less cut the rate. There's some fancy, veiled double-talk going on on the the left side of the aisle lately, as Democrats talk about cutting tax rates for some, but they seemingly refuse to talk spending cuts.

Then again, this is the party that thinks allowing you to keep your hard-earned money will "cost" the government. That mindset requires a belief that money belongs to government first, and it is only by their good will that you are allowed to keep it.

They print it, it must belong to them. Or. Why don't they print some of their own ??

I'm cracking myself up. :(

The author of this story is so ignorant of the real facts, I am sure he voted for Obama. It was the Obama Admin that spent so much money (from people who work & are retired), that this is the reason he wants to raise taxes. To not only spend even more, but to try to lie again and tell us by raising taxes, the spending will be under control. As far as I am concerned, I hope the taxes rise for all classes of people so they can all pay more and laugh at themselves for voting for Obama again. We should start by not giving refunds of tax money that was never paid to the government in the first place, especially the EIC.

Like in many other countries that do not have giveaway programs, almost everyone works to better themselves or you starve. This is what we need here to get people off the sofas and liquor stores and in the workforce.

Just like the letter to the GDP in Fridays paper(today), which the writer states, there is no evidence that lower tax rates on the rich will create jobs. is this Georgia Liberal newspaper that blind? Where do you think all the employees in all the major big companies were hired by; low income or middle class employers? This increase in rates no the wealthy is just a Liberal hate ploy against successful people. If the rates go up, less will be hired. The reason for less hiring is much further than a money issue by the wealthy. It is more an issue of providing all the entitlements required by the Federal government and the uncertainty of Washington, meaning the Democrats. Obama has yet to bow down an acept some of the laws by the GOP. I guess Obama lied again about coming together. Who in their right mind would vote for a President and Legislature that would divide the nation instead of combining it? Answer that question and you will see why he got elected again, pure stupidity. You never re-elect someone if you want to change the government to a government by the people, not a government by very rich politicians. Have you researched and noticed how much richer Obama is worth since the last 4 years? Too scared to check I guess.
