WRESTLING ROUNDUP: Archer wins pair of tournaments

It was a big weekend for the Archer wrestling program as the Tigers won a pair of tournaments.

Archer sent a team to the Danny Byron Duals in Osceola, Fla., and went 8-0 in the tourney with wins over Jensen Beach 66-0, George Jenkins 79-0, Dunedin 68-3, St. Cloud 75-3, Olympia 67-6, Jensen Beach 65-6, last year's Georgia dual state champions Camden County 40-20 and Florida's No. 2 ranked Osceola 39-22 in the finals.

Vinny Artigues, Sam Bullard, Chris Diaz, Ernest Alexander, and M.J. Couzan were undefeated for the Tigers.

Archer sent a second varsity team to the Brookwood Invitational and won the 22-team tournament with 125 points. Commerce was second with 121.5 points. Brookwood was sixth, Buford was seventh and Grayson was eighth.

Brandon Weber and Orlando Nawade were tournament champions. Gio Fernandez was second, Joey Salgado, C.J. Beasley, Trey Rinehart, and Avery Grizzle were fourth.

Collins Hill shines in Cali

CLOVIS, Calif. -- Collins Hill went 3-2 at the Clovis West Shootout on Friday and Saturday in California.

The Eagles lost to Buchanan 36-28, defeated Clovis North 55-18, Bullard 66-16, lost to Clovis 48-17 and defeated Clovis West 50-19 on Friday.

In the individual tournament, Sean Russell (113 pounds), Ryan Millhof (120), and Kyle Henschel (220) were tournament champions. Millhof defeated Oregon's No. 5 ranked wrestler. He also defeated the nation's No. 4 ranked 126-pound wrestler on Friday.

Codi Russell (106) was second, Griffin Riley (132), Michael Roquet (145), Jonathan Gilbert (195) were third, Zach Parker (138) was fourth, Michael Ilardi (136), Anthony Codella (160) and Aubrey Johnson (182) were fifth, Anderson Palm (285) was sixth and Jimmy Gall (152) was eighth.

GAC finishes fourth at tourney

PELHAM -- Greater Atlanta Christian had six wrestlers place in the top four to finish fourth at the Panther Classic at Pelham on Saturday.

Brandon Bradley (113 pounds), Carter Clinebell (132), Trent Scates (138) and Hunter Martin (195) were tournament champions. Adam Nakada (160) was second and Kyle Politz (120) was fourth.

Lanier's West wins Brookwood Invitational

SNELLVILLE -- Lanier's Chauncy West won the 285-pound weight class at the Brookwood Invitational on Saturday.

West, who also plays football, won all six matches by pins.

Buford takes seventh at Brookwood Invitational

SNELLVILLE -- Buford placed seventh out of 20 teams at the Brookwood Invitational on Saturday. The Wolves had three wrestlers place, including tournament champions Jack Barber (120 pounds) and Chip Ness (182). Barber was named the tournament's most outstanding wrestler.

Brayden Hartley placed third at 132 pounds.

Buford also split its tri-mett last week with a 58-22 win over Norcross and a 53-25 loss to North Gwinnett.

Wolves eighth at Rumble

ALPHARETTA -- Wesleyan had five wrestlers place at the Alpharetta Raider Rumble on Saturday to finish eighth as a team.

Connor Fitzpatrick was second, Haydon Koch and Miles Smith were third, Jake Mosley was fourth and Stuart Johnson was sixth.
