Gwinnett Fire honors 32 graduates

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Thirty two recruits who attended more than 1,000 of hours of training were recognized Monday night at a graduation ceremony for the newest Gwinnett firefighters.

Fire Chief Bill Myers, elected officials and county staff attended the ceremony where fire recruits received diplomas and badges at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center. The recruits recently completed about 1,240 hours of basic firefighting and emergency medical technician training. Specifically, the graduates took 640 hours of firefighter training and 600 hours of EMT training, including classroom, practical evolutions and clinical rotations, Gwinnett Fire Lt. Colin Rhoden said.

Rhoden said the recruits also received instruction in hazardous materials awareness and operations, emergency response to terrorism and pre-hospital emergency medical care.

Myers said that the firefighters received their station assignments and would begin work soon. The firefighters were hired to fill vacancies created by retirements and promotions.

"This is an important and exciting time in the history of the department," Rhoden said. "We are proud to be able to welcome these outstanding men and women to our fire and emergency services family."

The graduates who received special awards were: Eric Crisp, Core Values Award, Mark Dressler, Top Rung Award, Zabi Polard, Academic Award, Julio Rodriguez, EMT Class Star of Life and EMT Class Academic Award, Chris Tuck-Most Improved Award and Tyler Veronee, PT Award.

The class of graduates: Courtney Allen, Mel Middlebrooks, Mike Ambort, Shane Palmer, Cameron Bagley, Dominic Pasqualino, Jennifer Brooks, Zack Payne, Jamie Cote, Cody Pickelsimer, Luke Cown, Zabi Polard, Eric Crisp, Brandon Porter, Derek Dotson, Scott Rary, Mark Dressler, Julio Rodriguez, Jamison Earley, Jason Schuon, Wesley Ferguson, Anthony Strother

Dusty Hall, Chris Tuck, Kyle Johnson, Jess Verdejo, Chad Lake, Tyler Veronee, Web Marshall, Mike Watson, Michael McDaniel and Alex Wright.
