LAWRENCEVILLE — This is the time of year where families are brought to the forefront of all celebrations. The holiday cheer and merry festivities are all around. For families with active military troops, this time is more important than ever to be reunited with their loved ones.
On Sunday morning, the Historic Courthouse in Lawrenceville brought together a large number of military families in order to celebrate their service and to show their support by offering up great food, Christmas tunes and dancing.
The local VFW helped sponsor the event to honor the Army National Guard, Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 121st Infantry Regiment-Lawrenceville.
Renee Arant, program supervisor, helped establish the inaugural ball, to recognize local troops.
“How appropriate to show our support on a local level by having the event at the Lawrenceville Historic Courthouse,” Arant said.
Arant’s husband is a U.S. Marine, and many other family members are in the armed forces.
“I’m very excited that everything has come together so well since we’ve been planning this for months.” she said.
The event started with light drinks and snacks on the main floor, allowing the troops to peruse the museum rooms with their families.
After the families filed into the main ballroom, a color guard manned by the Civil Air Patrol presented the colors, while former American Idol contestant, Taylor Bahin, sang the national anthem.
Other forms of entertainment included the All Star Performance Art team, which performed numerous dances to the latest pop songs, and the raffling off of door prizes.
Other sponsors included the American Legion Posts in Duluth, Buford and Snellville.
