PREP ROUNDUP: Central girls hand Archer first loss

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Central Gwinnett's girls basketball team held off an Archer rally to hand the Tigers their first loss of the season, 56-50, Friday night.

The 8-AAAAAA win lifted the Black Knights to 6-2 overall and 2-1 in the region while Archer fell to 5-1, 3-1. Central led for much of the game, but the Tigers cut the lead to one with four minutes left. Central converted its field goals and free throws down the stretch to keep Archer at bay. Alexandra Frazier led Central with 26 points and Breanna McGee added 11. Both hit big 3-pointers in the fourth to seal the win.

The Tigers were paced by Madison Newby, who scored 16, and Taylor Rogers and Alesha Mann, who scored 11 and 10, respectively.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Parkview 61, Dacula 31

LILBURN -- Parkview remained undefeated and in first place in Region 8-AAAAAA as the Panthers defeated Dacula 61-31 Friday night.

Parkview (6-0, 2-0) was led by Genesis Perrymond's 23 points and Raven Johnson, who added 10. The Falcons were led by Saustine Aisuwa's eight points and Star Toomey's six points and nine rebounds.

Berkmar 58, South Gwinnett 46

LILBURN -- Berkmar defeated South 58-46 Friday night.

The win boosted the Patriots to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in Region 8-AAAAAA. South, which was ravaged by the flu bug this week, saw its record drop to 4-4, 2-2 in the region.

Berkmar was led by Lea Petit's 18 points and 10 rebounds. Amy Adame added 15 points and J.T. Washington had 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Patriots. South was led by Jashawna Johnson's 16 points and Colette Onenda's 12.

Wesleyan 77, Darlington 46

NORCROSS -- Katie Frerking scored 24 points and had four steals to help lead Wesleyan to a 77-46 win over Darlington on Friday night.

The Wolves (5-0) were in control throughout the game against the Falcons.

Kendra Talley added 14 points for the Wolves and Paige Mosely contributed 10 in the winning effort.

North Gwinnett 79, Meadowcreek 33

LILBURN -- North Gwinnett defeated Meadowcreek 79-33 in a Region 7-AAAAAA contest Friday night.

Peyton Whitted scored 16 to lead the Bulldogs attack Baylee Rexing had 11 points and eight assists. Lexie Brown and Stephanie Amichia each hauled down 10 rebounds for North. Meadowcreek (1-5) was led by Kourtni Hill's 10 points.

Brookwood 72, Shiloh 36

SNELLVILLE -- Brookwood defeated Shiloh 72-36 in Region 8-AAAAAA action Friday night.

Ten different players scored for the Broncos (6-1, 2-1).

Courtney Gardner led Brookwood with 13 points. Michaela Guffie added 12 points and 18 rebounds while teammate Rebecca Walker pitched in with 10 points. Shiloh (0-3) was led by Bria Ratliff who had 15 points. Davida White added eight and Ukhe Idebunjo had five for the Generals.

Mill Creek 64, Habersham 61

HOSCHTON -- Mill Creek nearly let a 17-point lead slip away but held on to defeat Habersham 64-61 Friday night in Region 7-AAAAAA.

The Hawks (5-3, 3-1) had their lead cut to 61-59 late in the game but were able to sink their free throws to seal the win. Nadiya Miller led Mill Creek with 27 points and Kathleen Haxton added eight for the Hawks.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Dacula 78, Parkview 50

LILBURN -- Dacula improved its record to 5-1, 3-1 in Region 8-AAAAAA with a 78-50 win over Parkview on Friday night.

Kevon Tucker led the Falcons with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Zentavous Cobb had 15 points and six rebounds. Brandon Gibson and Jaylen Williams had 14 and 12 points respectively.

Shiloh 62, Brookwood 44

SNELLVILLE -- Shiloh overcame a halftime deficit and cruised to a 62-44 Region 8-AAAAAA victory Friday night.

The Generals (4-1, 2-2) trailed 29-21 at halftime. A 22-6 run in the third quarter helped propel Shiloh to the win. Nate Mason led the Generals with 30 points and Cordell Raymer had a team high 12 rebounds.

Archer 65, Central Gwinnett 55

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Archer defeat Central 65-55 in Region 8-AAAAAA Friday night. Bryan Hamlet led the Tigers with 24 and Randall Smith added 20 in the victory. Brian Egejuru led the Black Knights (4-4, 0-3) with 17 while Shaun Jones and Neal Hodges each had 10.

Berkmar 70, South Gwinnett 51

LILBURN -- C.J. Foster scored 24 points to help lead Berkmar to a 70-51 Region 8-AAAAAA win Friday night over South Gwinnett. Tim Rowe added 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Patriots (4-2, 3-1) who were in control throughout the contest.

Mill Creek 61, Habersham 35

HOSCHTON -- Mill Creek used a total team effort to defeat Habersham 61-35 in Region 7-AAAAAA Friday night. Eleven Hawks scored in the balanced attack as Mill Creek improved its record to 6-2, 2-2 in the Region.

Apalachee 66, Flowery Branch 41

WINDER -- Apalachee defeated Flowery Branch 66-41 in a Region 8-AAAAA contest Friday night. Cameron Blackley, Rakim Peters and Austin Miller led the Wildcats (4-2, 2-2) with 12, 11 and 10 points respectively.

North Gwinnett 101, Meadowcreek 78

LILBURN -- Five Bulldogs scored in double figures to lead North Gwinnett to a 101-78 win over Meadowcreek Friday night.

The victory improved North to 6-0 on the season. T.J. Howard scored 28 while Ahmad Caver and Owen Lewis added 22 and 19, respectively for North.
