Memorial fund set up for Jasmine Benjamin

LAWRENCEVILLE -- A memorial fund has been set up for the family of Jasmine Benjamin, the Central Gwinnett High School grad found dead last month in her college dorm.

Donations to the Jasmine Benjamin Memorial Fund -- account number 8119470816 -- are now being accepted at any Wells Fargo branch, according to a post on the family's official Facebook page. An attorney hired by Benjamin's family following her death on Nov. 18 could not be reached for comment Friday.

Benjamin, who would have turned 18 on Dec. 1, was found dead inside a study room at her Valdosta State University dormitory on Nov. 18. Preliminary autopsy results have not been made public and toxicology reports have not yet come back, but authorities are treating the death as a homicide.

Since then, Benjamin's family has hired attorney Thomas Stubbs and private investigator Robin Martinelli to aid university police, city police and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in the case. Few specific details have been released regarding the mysterious nature of Benjamin's death, but authorities have interviewed students and friends and are "analyzing evidence."

Martinelli is helping police with a "social media investigation."

No official updates have been provided by the university since Nov. 29. Commander Brian Childress from the city of Valdosta Police Department said Friday that no new developments wee available for public dissemination.

It could still be weeks until full autopsy and toxicology results are available.

Anyone with information is asked to call 229-333-7816 or 229-293-3091.
