A day after Florida International fired head coach Mario Cristobal, the program lost one of its college recruits.

Collins Hill quarterback Brett Sheehan decommitted from FIU on Thursday, according to head coach Kevin Reach.

Sheehan committed to FIU in June where he planned to join former teammate Nick England. Sheehan chose the Miami school over offers from Georgia State and South Alabama at the time.

Sheehan threw for 2,008 yards with 16 touchdowns and five interceptions this season. He led Collins Hill to the playoffs with a 6-5 record.

Norcross' Akins sticking with Cal

California head coach Jeff Tedford was fired last month, but Norcross defensive back Shon Akins is still committed to the Pac-12 school.

Akins got reassurance that his scholarship offer was still available this week.

"As far as my commitment, nothing has really changed since the AD called me and said Cal is full go with me," Akins said. "That made me feel good because I didn't want a new coach to come in and I have to find out where I'm going to college."

Akins, who has family that lives in California, committed to the Golden Bears in April.

South offers continue to come in

South Gwinnett seniors Deonte Davis and Weston Simmons picked up college offers this week.

Davis, a safety, was offered by Colorado State and Simmons, a defensive end, was offered by Grambling and North Carolina A&T, according to head coach John Small.

Small denied reports that defensive back Devonte Lawrence-Spivey committed to UT-Martin this week.

Linebacker Reggie Carter has committed to Georgia and the Comets are expecting to have more than 10 players sign.
