Mill Creek wide receiver Michael Cheeks won online voting this week as the Daily Post's Fans Choice Player of the Week.

The senior got 40 percent of the vote to win a tight competition with Greater Atlanta Christian's Brandon Holzgrefe (38 percent), who finished ahead of Norcross' Trey Smith (14 percent) and Buford's Mikey Bart (8 percent). More than 3,500 votes were cast this week.

Each week during the football season, the Daily Post will nominate four players for its Fans Choice Player of the Week. Online voting at www.gwinnettprepsports.com will begin Monday mornings and will end Thursdays at noon. The winner will be featured online and in the Friday print edition.

Cheeks got the honor after catching four passes for 67 yards and a touchdown in the Hawks' Class AAAAAA quarterfinal playoff game at North Cobb.

"Michael played phenomenal the last part of the season," Mill Creek head coach Shannon Jarvis said. "As our offense was really clicking at the end of year, a lot of that was Michael's ability to stretch the the defense and make plays. I couldn't be more proud for him because his hard work on the practice field has turned into results and now college opportunities are coming open for him."
