LAWRENCEVILLE -- DragonCon founder Ed Kramer looks to be headed back to Gwinnett County to face child molestation charges lodged against him more than a decade ago.
Kramer was arrested on Sept. 15, 2011, in Milford, Conn., for allegedly violating the terms of his bond in Gwinnett. He lost an appeal in Connecticut this week that could have blocked or delayed his extradition to Georgia, District Attorney Danny Porter said.
The co-founder of what's now the world's largest science fiction convention should be headed south, sooner rather than later.
"Kramer lost his appeal," Porter said, "but I don't have a firm time frame for his return."
Kramer is accused of molesting three boys between 1996 and 2000.
He allegedly lured two of them, ages 13 and 15 at the time, in with action figures, science fiction memorabilia and connections with celebrities after he began dating their mother. Police believe he took advantage of them during sleepovers.
A third teen came forward in 2003.
In 2008 -- while the case remained mired in claims of ill health, appeals and other suits -- a Gwinnett judge allowed Kramer to cease being under house arrest as long as he told prosecutors his whereabouts. Part of Kramer's bond conditions prohibited his unsupervised contact with minors under 16 years old.
That condition was broken when Milford, Conn., authorities reportedly found him in a motel room there with a then-14-year-old boy. The boy was acting in a low-budget horror film being shot there. Kramer claimed to be acting as his guardian.
If convicted locally, Kramer faces up to 60 years in prison. Porter has said that he could be ready to finally try the case with as little as two weeks notice.
