Brookwood's QuanDra Shanks and Peachtree Ridge's Josh Brickell were named runners of the year by the Gwinnett County Cross Country coaches at their season ending banquet on Thursday at Brookwood High School.

Shanks was Gwinnett's top finisher in the girls Class AAAAAA state meet with a third-place finish. Brickell won the Class AAAAAA state championship, his third cross country title in a row.

Brookwood's Chris Carter was named girls coach of the year and Mill Creek's Andy Christie was the boys coach of the year. Both led their teams to Class AAAAAA state championships.

The Gwinnett County Cross Country coaches also inducted three members into its hall of fame. Wesleyan's Lauren Blankenship and Berkmar's Girma Mecheso were honored. Blankenship was a three-time state champion from 2000-02 and led the Wolves to a pair of state titles. Mecheso won the Class AAAAA state title in 2006 and qualified for the Footlocker national championship.

Tomy Sitton, a Greater Atlanta Christian grad, who coached at GAC, Brookwood, North Gwinnett and Peachtree Ridge will also be inducted. Sitton led Brookwood to three state titles from 1989-91 and eight county championships.
