U.S. Rep. Rob Woodall took to the floor of the House recently to blast President Barack Obama's fiscal cliff proposal.

In a special order speech Friday, the Republican from Lawrenceville compared the proposal to a giant blank sheet of paper, saying it's "absent of any information whatsoever."

Woodall, a member of the House Budget Committee, said the fiscal cliff conversation needs to focus on spending reforms.

"This is a giant blank sheet of paper," he said, using a visual aid. "It's absent of any information whatsoever; because, so too is the President's proposal for tackling the real economic challenge we have here, the real driver of budget deficits, the real threat to American economic superiority in this world: out-of-control federal spending."

Congressman holds foreclosure event

U.S. Rep. Hank Johnson, whose district includes portions of Lilburn and Duluth and will shift to incorporate the Snellville area in the new year, is hosting a community event this weekend, in conjunction with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs' HomeSafe Georgia program and certified housing counselors the D&E Group.

Hundreds of homeowners came out to a similar event last April, which helped people left unemployed or underemployed due to the economy.

Slated for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Salem Bible Church in Lithonia, the event will also allow homeowners to meet with counselors to see if they are eligible for a loan modification.
